Chandler (Chan) A. Tyrrell

April 18, 1925 - December 25, 2025

Chandler (Chan) A. Tyrrell, 100, of Lincoln passed away December 25, 2025. Born at home, April 18, 1925, in Lincoln, Nebraska to Delzon LeRoy and Iva Marie (Durham) Tyrrell.

In Chan’s life, the most important thing to him were his friends and family. He spent his life cherishing those relationships. The family saw his patience, love and caring through times of health and life challenges. His many friendships were built through his dedication to community and career.

Chan’s church and faith were extremely important to him. He lived out his faith by Chairing the Westminster Foundation and serving on the Session for Westminster where he served on the Finance Committee and spent years as Head Usher.

In the community, Chan served as the Board Chair for the Madonna Foundation. He served on the Boards of Hillcrest Country Club, the Country Club of Lincoln, and was the President of the University Club. He was a long-time member of the Lincoln Executive Club and served as President twice. A second-generation Rotarian, Chan was a member of Lincoln Rotary Club #14 where he served as program chair. After moving to the Landing, he became a founding member of the Landing Scholarship Committee and served as its Chair. In the 1970’s he served on the Mayor’s Human Relations Committee.

Following his grandfather and father into the floral business in 1945, Chan ran and owned Tyrrell’s Flowers for over 50 years. In 1988 he was inducted into the Nebraska Floral Society Hall of Fame. During his time in the floral industry, he served as the District Chairman and District Representative for Florist Transworld Delivery (FTD) and served on the national Board of the Society of American Florists.

Chan’s generosity went beyond just his friends and family as many organizations also benefited from his generosity. For many years he donated floral arrangements to Grace Lutheran Church, Tabitha Health Care, and Westminster Presbyterian Church. In addition, he was proud of the stained-glass window that his wife, Nancy, and he donated to the Chapel at Madonna.

Chan is survived by his son Chandler A. (Suzanne) Tyrrell II; daughters Julie (Frank) Jacobsen, Kathy Hasselbalch, and Mary Orth; grandchildren Chandler (Lisa) Tyrrell III, Christian (Kimm) Tyrrell, Theodore (Miki) Tyrrell, Scott (Stacy) Jacobsen, Brad (Jessica) Jacobsen, Amy (Aaron) Ost, Laura Orth, and Jeffrey Orth; 8 great grandchildren, and his special friend Marcia Guffey. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives Patricia Tyrrell and Nancy Hasselbalch Tyrrell.

Lincoln has lost one of its brightest lights. Chan Tyrrell had that rare quality of making life better anywhere he went. His service to his country, the care he provided With love of flowers in all seasons of life. Always, involved in his church and civic Community. He was adored and loved by his family whom he loved and cherished. His friends knew they could always count on him in good times and bad. Most importantly, he just made you feel better be around him; his smile would light up And his eyes would twinkle and the day was special.

So sorry to see Chan’s passing. Through the Floral Industry, I learned what a fine human being he was. My Son’s name was Ty because we felt anther Chandler would just be too much with Chan already named. LOL . The world will miss him and I’m glad he was part of my family’s lives. Thoughts and Prayers

I called on Chan and Nancy during my time on Westminster’s staff. They were so welcoming and such genuine people. After Nancy’s passing and the loss of his sight, Chan’s patience, courage, and strength were a testimony to his faith. I remember visits so clearly. I’d walk in the door and just from “Hello, Chan” he knew who it was and a cheery ” Hello, Ellen!” began a delightful conversation. He frequently sat behind my husband and myself and always greeted us with that same warmth. I can hear his voice now! Till we meet again, Chan, enjoy the full color of sunrises and sunsets of heaven.

Dear Chan, Jr: I was sorry to learn of your Dad’s passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I had sort of known Chan when I was young, just because he was a friend of my parents, but, when I was 13 and started ushering at Westminster, somebody put me on Chan’s team of ushers for the next 6 years. He had such a positive attitude while having fun doing the work. It must have influenced me because I’m still ushering at church, 58 years later. I think my parents and Chan and Nancy were better friends after they all moved to Bishop Square and saw each other more often. Chan was also there for our family when not only my parents passed but their parents and many other relatives died. He’ll truly be missed.

I met Chan when my parents lived next to him at the Landing, Jim and Ginger Nissen. What a dear and kind man. I always enjoyed saying hi to Chan when I was there, a blessing to talk to him. A fond memory was when after my parents moved to the Cove, my dad and I visited Chan for his 99th birthday. Dad, Chan, and Mary Trimble had a wonderful visit together. I loved to see their friendships. Thank you Lord for blessing Lincoln with Chan. Tim Nissen

My husband and I first met Chan when we moved into the Landing at Williamsburg in 2019. Chan was the most kind, genuine, and delightful friend we had at the Landing. We loved to hear him talk about his deep faith and his love for the scriptures. Chan was a beautiful example of a christian man. 2 Corinthians 5:8 says. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Chan is walking the streets of gold now in heaven, he was blind, but now he sees. We are forever thankful to God for Chan’s friendship. We thank our God in all our remembrance of him. In Christian Love, Larry and Vicki Kinnan
