Obituary

Delores Bernice Brandt Alberts Coatman

December 26, 1931 - February 3, 2022

Delores Bernice Brandt Alberts Coatman passed away February 3, 2022, just a couple of days after her beloved husband Gilbert E. Coatman. They were married on June 4, 1951, in Glenwood, Iowa. She was born December 26, 1931, in Beatrice, Nebraska and adopted and lovingly raised by Alfred and Gertrude (Huls) Alberts in Filley, Nebraska.

Not quiet or shy is she, but full of pep and gaiety.

Delores was lively and welcoming with bright blue eyes and a wonderful smile. As a young woman, she enjoyed sports and extracurricular activities and participated in her high school softball team even nicknamed “Babe” for all her home run hits, volleyball team, drama club, singing groups, drummer girl in the band, and sports editor of the yearbook. Her children recall her as a supermom whose kitchen table welcomed all guests. She was an excellent seamstress and gardener and her grandchildren looked forward to her homemade jellies and rhubarb sauce in the summertime.

Delores attended Fairbury Junior College and held several jobs during her lifetime, but most remember her from the neighborhood store Swing In.

Delores is survived by daughters Pam (Stan) Hegener and Peggy (Ron) Gentzler; son Kim Coatman; grandchildren Tricia Carr, Spence Hegener, Keri Mitchell, Katherine Brown; great-grandchildren Peyton Carr, Caleb Carr, Grace Hegener, Grant Hegener, McCoy Mitchell, Walker Hancock, Cord Brown, Ava Karis Brown, and Briley Brown. Foster grandson Adrian Stewart and family.

Preceded in death by her husband Gilbert Eugene Coatman; parents Henry Brandt, Carrie Smith Brandt, Alfred Alberts, Gertrude Huls Alberts; stepmother Gertrude Fitzwater Alberts; brothers Charles Hess, Harold Brandt, Henry Brandt, Roy Brandt, Marvin Brandt, Orville (Brandt) Stueck; sister Mildred (Brandt) Langley Arnold; and great-grandson Thomas Gerald Mitchell.

When Gil & Dee, Andy and me would gather on weekends in our early years, we would discuss various subjects. Gil & Dee said when older they would hold hands and jump off a cliff toghether. What goes around comes around. How we all will miss them. A very neat couple.
