Building Community Through Connection

We’re dedicated to supporting families and strengthening the Lincoln community. We have always believed that caring for families doesn’t end when the service is over—it’s about supporting them through grief and through life.

The Ongoing Impact of Roper & Sons Funeral Home

When Beth needed guidance and support after her mother died, she turned to Roper & Sons for help with the funeral. When Bill and Suzy wanted more information about preplanning their funerals, they attended one of our preplanning luncheons. When the Girard family was struggling with finding happiness during the holidays, they found comfort at our Blue Christmas service. The many ways that Roper & Sons Funeral Home gives back to the Lincoln community are deeply  rooted in our history, a legacy that began in 1901.

Charles H. Roper’s vision of serving Lincoln with integrity and compassion continues to guide everything we do today. While our business has grown and evolved alongside the community, our purpose has remained the same. We’re more than a funeral home—we are part of Lincoln’s story, connected to the families we’ve served and honored across generations.

Connecting Through Loss

At Roper & Sons, we’re dedicated to supporting families and strengthening the Lincoln community. We have always believed that caring for families doesn’t end when the service is over—it’s about supporting them through grief and through life.

Feelings of loneliness and loss can last weeks, months, and sometimes longer. Recognizing this need in our community, monthly Grief Group Counseling sessions in 2023. These gatherings offer a safe space and welcoming place where individuals can find understanding, encouragement, and connection with others who are going through similar experiences. The sessions are free and open to anyone in the Lincoln community.

Sessions are led by Melissa Thorne, a licensed grief counselor known for her compassionate approach and ability to help people find hope and healing after the loss of a loved one.

Grief Group Counseling is held each month at our Midtown Chapel, 4300 O Street. Session times are:

  • Grief Group Counseling, the first and third Sundays each month, from 1:45 PM – 2:45 PM
  • Addiction Loss Group Counseling, the third Sunday only, from 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Another meaningful way we offer support is through our annual Blue Christmas service each December. The holiday season can be especially difficult for those carrying grief in their hearts. This service provides a quiet, reflective environment for remembrance, comfort, and connection. Through gentle music, readings, and shared moments, families are invited to honor loved ones and find peace among others who understand that the holidays can hold both love and loss.

Investing in Our Community

Giving back has long been one of our core values. Since the days of Charles H. Roper, supporting others has been part of who we are. We believe in caring for people beyond funeral services. This includes supporting nonprofit organizations that provide vital resources in our community and hosting free educational seminars on topics that matter to families.

From helping individuals understand the basics of estate planning and how to protect assets for future generations, to learning how preplanning your funeral can ease emotional and financial burdens later, our goal is to provide practical information that empowers families to make confident decisions.

Being part of the Lincoln Community means everything to us,” said Dean Schneider, Vice President and Co-owner of Roper & Sons. “We’re building lifelong relationships rooted in compassion and care.”

Our employees also give generously of their time and talents by volunteering with local organizations, supporting schools and youth sports, and participating in community events throughout Lincoln, Waverly, and Firth.

Recognizing Others

Many unsung heroes quietly make a difference in our community every day. To celebrate their impact, we created the Here’s to the Heroes award—an opportunity for local residents to nominate individuals who go above and beyond to help others without seeking recognition. This initiative allows us to shine a light on the kindness and generosity that help make our community stronger.

Whether it is through community spaces, educational opportunities, or supportive gatherings, the Roper & Sons name has become synonymous with trust and giving back. We remain committed to creating meaningful opportunities for families to come together, learn, heal, and find comfort, for generations to come.
