Obituary

Cynthia Sue (Hilligas) Meyer

May 29, 1952 - December 15, 2025

Cynthia Sue (Hilligas) Meyer was born on May 29, 1952, in Tilden, Nebraska, and passed away peacefully on December 15, 2025, at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Florida.

Cynthia grew up on a farm near Chambers, Nebraska and graduated as valedictorian from Chambers High School in 1970.

She was first married to Dave Tracy, and from that union four children were born. Later, she married Dr. Michael Meyer, with whom she shared many happy years.

Cynthia is survived by her husband, Dr. Michael Meyer; her children Matthew Tracy (Brenda), Mitchell Tracy, Merrick Tracy (Dr. Alexis), and Debra Tracy; and her cherished grandchildren Makenna (Johnny), Taryn (Grant), Kaitlyn (Luc), Jonathon, Nathaniel, Vegas, Otis, Moses, Franka, Phoebe, Ethan, Ruby, Silas, and Clementine.

She is also survived by her siblings Jan Nixon (Scott), Ron Hilligas (Becky), and Amy Rathje (Rory); and her brothers- and sisters-in-laws Dr. Tom A. Christensen and Lois Christensen, Dr. Peter Meyer and Tracy Meyer, Susan Meyer, and Chris and Barbara J. Andersen; along with many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Cynthia was preceded in death by her parents, Louanne Deermer and Lloyd Hilligas.

Throughout her life, Cynthia dedicated herself to caring for others. She worked for several years at the Minden Medical Clinic and later served as office manager at Children’s Dental Clinic, P.C. She had a warm and gentle spirit that made everyone feel welcome. She loved to travel, enjoyed sailing on their sailboat, and found joy in cooking, crocheting and reading. Music was an important part of her life, and she served as a church organist and piano accompanist.

Cynthia had a special gift with children and was often called the “baby whisperer” for her ability to comfort even the fussiest baby. Above all, she treasured time with her family and rarely missed an opportunity to attend her grandchildren’s activities. She was truly a friend to everyone she met.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on December 27, 2025, at Roper and Sons, 3950 Hohensee Drive, Lincoln, Nebraska. The family will be available to greet friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service.

Memorials may be directed to Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital, Lincoln, NE.

My husband and I met Cindy and Mike an our honeymoon in St. Vincent this month. Cindy was such a joy to be around. We would spend time with her at the pool and got to know both Cindy and Mike over some drinks and lunch. We would meet almost everyday at the pool. We would laugh and get to know eachother along with another couple we met (Loree and Clint). Cindy was such a bright light. She made me feel so welcomed and it felt like I known her forever. She is one of the sweetest souls I’ve met. We shared a fresh mango with her right before we left the Sandals resort. She told us that we might have to throw it away so we were thankful for her advise. We shared our goodbyes and left. We are so blessed and thankful to have met Cindy. Our honeymoon memory will forever be special thanks to her 💕

Dr. Meyer and family, Cindy touched so many lives with her warm smile, compassionate heart and outgoing personality! My children were blessed to have been taken care of by Dr. Meyer and Cindy for many years. We were treated like family and that meant the world to us. My heart hurts for your loss and my family will be keeping all of you in our thoughts and prayers.
