Obituary

Marlin Julius Belew

April 6, 1938 - February 12, 2022

Marlin Julius Belew, 83, of Valparaiso, passed away February 12, 2022, in Lincoln, NE. He was born April 6, 1938, in Stuart, NE to Julius and Faye (Clemens) Belew.

Marlin was a U.S. Army veteran serving both stateside and in Germany. He loved hunting, fishing, and camping although he spent more time looking at Elk through a scope then he did shoot them. A treasured vacation was when Marlin and Mary packed up their six kids in the family station wagon and drove them all to California. Marlin was the most at home on his farm in Eastern Seward County where he enjoyed raising lots of different animals and working the land over the years. His family has lots of great memories of time spent trapshooting, riding around in the fields, looking for big rocks and watching the beautiful Nebraska sunsets. Marlin retired from Burlington Northern Railroad in 2001 where he worked as a carman, was on the derailment team and was a member of the Railroad Labor Lodge. In his later years his grandchildren’s activities kept him and Mary on the road and he loved to eat out at many different restaurants.

Marlin is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Belew; two daughters Ivy Pearl & Dan McVay – Merrill, WI and Rachael & Michael Neukirch – Lincoln, NE; and four sons, Lee Belew – Raymond, NE, Alan Belew – Lincoln, NE, Bryan & Tammy Belew – Kismet, KS, and Corey & Kindy Belew – Palmyra, NE. Grandchildren are Kenneth and Jacqueline McVay, Madison and Hannah Neukirch, Wayne, Levi, Audrey and Faye Belew, Justen & Lesley Belew, Taylor, Brayden and Payzleigh Belew. Two Great grandsons, Colton and Oliver Belew. Sister-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and granddaughter, Calleigh Joy Belew.

There will be a memorial service at 11:00 am on Friday, February 18, 2022, at the Piedmont Park Seventh Day Adventist Church at 4801 A Street, Lincoln, NE.

Masks are required.

A luncheon will directly follow the service at the church. A private family burial will take place at a later time.

I cherish my time at the farm with Marlin and Mary, (my sister). I would wake up hearing Marlin in the kitchen making breakfasts and singing and whistling. He loved true country and Gospel music. When Lee was born, he told me he maybe wanted 3 more boys and he got triplets! Rest well until we are all together again.

It is precious memories I have at Marlins and Mary’s (my sister) farm. I would wake up hearing Marlin in the kitchen making breakfast while singing or whistling true Country or Gospel songs. When Lee was born, I asked him how many more. He said maybe 3 more boys. Then the triplet boys were born. He had a chair by the pond and was surrounded by 2 dogs and cats on his lap and wrapped around his legs. Rest well until we are all together again..

The highlight of more summers than not was my 2-3 week stay at the farm. Frog hunting in the ponds, chores, neighbor kids, the fair and allowed to order a shake at a restaurant on the way “home”, riding on trailer while bailing hay, tomato and Mayo sandwiches on white bread! All of us crammed into that little house and Marlin going along with it all! What an amazing man! My heart is full as I think of him but sad at how incredibly much he will be missed. Love to my extended second family! Many hugs…Until we again in heaven Marlin❤️

I worked with him at The Havelock Shops. He was a great man to work with. There was a lot of laughter and fun being around him. He will be missed by all that knew him.
