William Kortus

March 19, 1937 - December 30, 2025

William “Bill” Kortus, 88, of Lincoln passed away December 30, 2025.  He was born March 19, 1937 in Valley Springs, South Dakota, to John and Gerrittje (Van Malkenhorst) Kortus.

Bill grew up in Lyndon, Washington, where he attended the local high school. In 1955, at the age of 18, he joined the Air Force which took him throughout our country and to various places around the world – California, Germany, South Dakota, Mississippi, Thailand, Laos (unofficially) and Nebraska, where he ended his Air Force career in 1975 (honorably discharged) at the rank of Master Sergeant E7.

After his time in the Air Force, Bill went into the finance industry and worked at Household Finance Company and American Charter.
On May 20, 1960, Bill married Agnes Scholten in Apeldoorn, Holland. They had three children: Terry, Rob and Tom.

He was a member of the Optimist Club and American Legion Post #3.

Bill was an avid golfer. He would talk golf with/to anyone, whether they wanted to or not! In his final job, he worked as a marshal for Lincoln City golf courses. Bill was a huge Nebraska volleyball fan. He rarely missed watching a game.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 6 sisters. Bill is survived by his wife, Agnes; sister, Henrietta; sons Terry (Michele), Rob (Julie) and Tom (Erin); 7 grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
