Everlyn Arlene (Reimers) Craven

November 10, 1909 - August 18, 2009

Everlyn Arlene (Reimers) Craven, 99, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, was born November 10, 1909, in Pierce, Nebraska and passed away August 18, 2009, in Lincoln, Nebraska. Evie was the fifth child and first daughter of Theodore H. and Clara M. (Petersen) Reimers. She was a 1928 graduate of Pierce High School. She worked at Pete Bele’s Grocery and Drygoods Store in Pierce from 1928 until 1936 and then moved to Osmond, Nebraska to work at Ehrenburg’s Store.

On June 20, 1938, she married Howard J. Craven of Osmond. In 1939, they moved to Plainview, Nebraska and established the Family Food Center which they operated together until early 1968 when the business was sold due to Howard’s failing health. He passed away in July 1968. She continued to live in the home they built in Plainview until 1975 when she moved to Lincoln, Nebraska to be near their only child, Caryl and her family. She loved caring for her daughter and grandchildren and great-grandchildren just as she had her little sisters. For many years, until health considerations intervened, she actively pursued volunteer activities as she had throughout her life in Pierce County. Her friendliness, her sense of humor and her ability to visit with anyone will be missed by all.

Everlyn was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Lincoln and previously St. Paul’s in Plainview. Preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard; five brothers, Harlan, Milton, Wallace, Hibbard and Oliver; nephews Paul and Ronald. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Caryl and Ross Greathouse of Lincoln; cherished grandchildren Leslie and Brian Beatty of Lenexa, Kansas, Jay Greathouse of North Sioux City, South Dakota; great-grandchildren Mackenzie Eve and Caitlin Beatty, Isabella and Harrison Greathouse; sisters Valeda Otto of Pierce, Leila Epstein of Omaha; sister-in-law Esther Reimers of Fremont; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. To this obituary, each adds memories of life shared with Evie.
