The Power of Kindness: Why Roper & Sons Honors Lincoln’s Everyday Heroes

Roper & Sons’s Here’s to the Heroes Award recognizes kindness, generosity, and compassion that helps make Lincoln a stronger community.

Here's to the Heroes

For the fifth consecutive year, Roper & Sons is honored to present the Here’s to the Heroes Award. This award recognizes the individuals whose kindness, generosity, and compassion help to make Lincoln a stronger community. Since 2022, the award has provided an opportunity for community members to nominate and share stories of individuals whose selfless acts have touched lives in memorable ways.

Our “Why”

Throughout our community, people are quietly making a difference in the lives of others. Whether they volunteer their time, support neighbors in need, mentor young people, care for family members, or step up when someone needs assistance, they are there to help without expecting any recognition in return. The Here’s to the Heroes Award was established to celebrate these everyday heroes and shine a light on the positive impact they have on everyone around them.

“At Roper & Sons, we have the privilege of seeing how people come together to care for one another during some of life’s most important moments,” said Dean Schneider, Vice President and Co-owner of Roper & Sons. “We believe the people who quietly serve others deserve to be recognized and celebrated. Their kindness strengthens our community, inspires others, and reminds us of the difference one person can make.”

Far-reaching Impact

There are many reasons why we celebrate everyday heroes, those people who go above and beyond. Every recognition can have a profound and far-reaching impact.

  • Recognition reinforces the values that strengthen our community.
When we celebrate kindness, generosity, and service, it sends a positive message that these actions matter. Recognizing people who help others encourages a culture where compassion and community involvement are valued and appreciated.
  • Everyday heroes often work quietly behind the scenes.
Many people who make a difference never seek recognition for their efforts. Taking time to acknowledge their contributions helps ensure their impact is seen and appreciated by the community they serve.
  • Their actions inspire others to get involved.
Sharing stories of individuals helping neighbors, volunteering their time, or supporting those in need often motivate others to do the same. Recognition creates positive examples that encourage more acts of kindness, from people of all ages and all walks of life.
  • Celebrating acts of kindness helps build stronger connections.
Lincoln thrives when people feel supported and connected. Recognizing those who consistently help others highlights the importance of looking out for one another, and it strengthens community bonds.
  • Gratitude has a ripple effect.
A simple act of appreciation can be powerful. When communities publicly thank people for their kindness and service, it creates a ripple effect that encourages generosity, fosters goodwill, and reminds everyone that even small acts can make a meaningful difference.

Nominating Someone Feels Good

When you nominate someone, you’re letting them know that you recognize and appreciate their acts of kindness. It only takes a few minutes to share someone’s story of compassion and service. When people hear about individuals who are making a positive difference, it inspires more kindness throughout the community. Let someone know that their generosity and efforts mattered.

You can nominate someone at RoperandSons.com/Heroes through July 15, 2026.
