A Meaningful Way to Remember This Memorial Day

Placing flowers on a gravesite on Memorial Day and the creation of something meaningful is what inspired our bouquet-making community event.

Memorial Carnation Flowers

Placing flowers on a gravesite on Memorial Day is a simple gesture, but it carries deep meaning. It’s a quiet way of saying, you are remembered, even years later. For many, it becomes a moment to pause, reflect, and feel close to someone they’ve lost—whether through a favorite bloom, a carefully arranged bouquet, or even a single stem. That act of care can bring comfort, helping express emotions that are often hard to put into words. In the midst of a busy world, it creates space for remembrance, connection, and gratitude for the lives that have shaped our own.

This idea of creating something meaningful is what inspired Roper & Sons in Lincoln to host a special community event—Memorial bouquet-making. It’s an opportunity to gather, reflect, and take part in a hands-on experience that honors loved ones in a personal and lasting way. There’s something powerful about not just bringing flowers, but creating them yourself—choosing each stem with intention and care.

The history behind flowers on Memorial Day.

Memorial Day has its roots in the years following the Civil War, when communities across the United States began honoring fallen soldiers by decorating their graves. This tradition led to the holiday’s original name, “Decoration Day.” Families, friends, and even strangers would come together in cemeteries, placing flowers on graves as a sign of respect, remembrance, and gratitude.

Over time, this simple act became one of the most enduring symbols of the holiday. Flowers, with their beauty and fragility, serve as a powerful reminder of both the lives lost and the love that continues. They represent not only remembrance, but also the connection between past and present. Even today, placing flowers remains a meaningful way to honor those who came before us—whether they were lost in service or were simply someone deeply loved.

A community event for bouquet-making.

This Memorial Day season, we invite you to be part of that tradition in a thoughtful and creative way. Anyone in the Lincoln community is welcome to join us for a special bouquet-making event designed to bring people together in remembrance.

Light refreshments will be available, and the atmosphere is designed to offer a quiet, supportive space where you can take a moment for yourself, reflect, and remember. Whether you plan to place your bouquet at a gravesite or keep it close at home, it becomes a tangible expression of love and memory.

It’s a meaningful partnership.

We’re grateful to partner with Stem Gallery for this special event, bringing their creativity and expertise to each bouquet.
