Delbert Charles Hurd, 88, Lincoln, died Monday (4-26-10). Born (11-23-21) in Bethany, Nebraska to Charles and Pearl (Jester) Hurd. Graduated from Lincoln High School in 1940 and joined the Army National Guard. Served in WWII in the Pacific, New Guinea, Australia and the Philippines as an Engineering Battalion First Lt. 1940 – 1946. Worked for Sampson Construction for 35 years. Was a master wood craftsman in homes and businesses. Belonged to the American Legion and Carpenter’s Union Local 444. Married Betty Kempkes in May 1941.
Survived by his wife Betty; son, daughter-in-law: Alan and Janie Hurd, Georgetown, TX; grandson: Todd Hurd, Canton, GA; granddaughter: Mandi Richardson, Austin, TX; great grandsons: Jack and John Hurd; brother, sisters-in-law: Wayne and Sandy Hurd, Ardith Kempkes; special nieces: Lora Wilbur and Marla Kay Roberts and many other extended family. Preceded in death by parents, sister Eleanor McMichael and grandson Brent Hurd.
Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m. Friday (4-30-10) Roper and Sons Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ Street. Rev. Don Diehl officiating.
