Darlene Kay Percival died unexpectedly in her home on Saturday, January 27, 2018 in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 71.

Darlene is survived by her siblings, Berneice Morse of Ruston, Louisiana; Douglas Percival of Alma, Nebraska; Mark Percival formerly of Oxford, Nebraska; and Gary (GP) Percival of Oxford, Nebraska; and multiple nephews and great-nephews, nieces and great-nieces with whom she was very involved and loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Pauline Percival of Oxford, Nebraska.

Darlene was born on October 8, 1946 in Holdrege, Nebraska at Brewster’s Hospital to Thomas and Pauline Percival, their first born child. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1964 and then went off to college, graduating from Kearney State College in 1968 with a degree in Education. She moved to York, Nebraska to pursue teaching, which she did for years, but ended up pursuing a career in criminal justice. She worked at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women for several years before transferring to the Lincoln Correctional Center, the place from which she retired.

She was very well respected and accomplished in the correctional system, known for her dedication to the job and loyal service over her career. She was a hard-working, plain-spoken, kind, and generous person who was passionate about her friends, family, and life. She was an avid animal lover from the time she was a kid on the farm, owning several cats over the years, helping friends with their pets, and always willing to give of herself. She was an active and dedicated member of her church, The Church of the Holy Trinity, volunteering her time and talents to serve people and teach children about Jesus.

Funeral and internment for Darlene is scheduled for 11:00 AM, Friday, February 2nd, 2018, at The Church of the Holy Trinity, 6001 A Street, Lincoln, Nebraska 68510, with a reception to follow at the same location. The Rev. Susanna DesMarais will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Darlene’s life.
