Obituary

Zane M. VanArsdall

January 4, 2014 - September 5, 2025

Zane Matthew VanArsdall, 11, of Eagle, NE passed away September 5, 2025, at Children’s Hospital in Omaha, NE. Born January 4, 2014, in Lincoln, NE to Michael and Tami (Caughey) VanArsdall.

Zane attended Waverly Middle School where he was a sixth grader.

Zane lived his 4,262 days on earth to the fullest. He always had a smile, a hug, or a fist bump for you. Zane had a heart of gold, was kind, respectful, and never let his size slow him down. Zane loved to play pranks, was a master at playing the claw machine, and was the best photo bomber. He loved to ride his bike, play Fortnite, watch the Lincoln Stars Hockey, and loved watching his friends play sports and cheer them on.

His real love was racing his go-kart. Zane had just finished his second year of racing. He wanted to be just like his idol, Rico Abreu. In the summer, when Zane wasn’t racing, he was watching the races at Eagle Raceway. He truly loved being at the racetrack.

Family members include his parents Michael and Tami; brother Devin Sobotka; sisters Kylie Sobotka and Lily Haeussler; nephew Hendrix Haeussler; grandparents Amber Patterson and Paul and Vicky VanArsdall; Aunt Roni Patterson; cousins, Ostynn, Ethan, and Rhian; Great Aunts; and many other family and friends that loved him very much. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and great-grandparents.

Viewing will be Friday, September 12, 2025 from 5 PM to 7 PM at Roper and sons in Waverley, Nebraska .

Even though he lived in Waverly, he was still my best friend. I loved that kid, he was really growing up to be like Rico.

I remember when I used to see Zane, my whole world would light up and even to this day. I could never forget the short, but good friendship we once, and still share.

Tami & Family, there are no words to ease this pain and my heart goes out to you. I remember when you would bring him into Conifer when he was a baby, I loved stealing him from you when I could. He was so sweet and precious. While I didn’t see him after that, I did enjoy the many reason he got mad at you and may I say, they were always valid reasons 😉(not letting him eat pudding with the dog while sharing a spoon 🤔 geez, Karen 🤭) My thoughts and prayers are with you all. ❤️

All I can say is that kid was the coolest guy I’ve met and will stay that way forever. Zaner was the spunkiest person everywhere you went. He was not shy, he always had a smile on his face and so did everyone else around him. I miss you buddy, you will be heavily missed down here, till we meet again.

I am a frequent visitor to the Eagle community via my son and family. I saw Zane at events over the years and was always impressed by how he greeted and treated everyone with a grin and a fist bump. My heart breaks for all of you who cherished him. No words can express how special he was, nor how his presence will be missed.
