Wilbur 'Bud' Dasenbrock

Wilbur ‘Bud’ Dasenbrock was born on January 30, 1934 to Hubert and Helen (Callies) Dasenbrock at their farm home near Creston, Nebraska, in Stanton County. Bud was baptized at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Creston, Nebraska on August 5, 1934. Bud’s baptism came to fulfillment on February 28, 2020 at Bryan East in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Bud attended Lonely Valley Country School, Creston High School, and the University of Nebraska Ag College. From 1953-1955, Bud served as a Navy Seabee, serving in Guam and Kwajalein.

On February 12, 1956, Bud married Betty Tomasek at New Zion Presbyterian Church in Clarkson, Nebraska. Together they lived on a dairy farm south of Leigh until 1961. During this time they attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, rural Leigh, Nebraska. Born to this marriage were two children, Bruce and Cindy.

Bud worked for Nebraska Game and Parks for 15 years. Following that, for 18 years, Bud was Director of Landscape Services at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (city and east campus). Bud retired in 1996.

For the past couple years, Bud was a member of United Lutheran Church in Lincoln. During his retirement, Bud’s energies were channeled through numerous church and civic outlets. He was also generous with regard to sharing horticultural information with anyone who was interested. Bud’s faith was continually found active tending to, cultivating, and creation, in addition to his sharing of that love with others.

Bud’s survivors include his wife, Betty; daughter, Cindy Garner, Fulton, Missouri; grandson, Jeremy, Fulton, Missouri; sisters, Jeanne Went, Columbus, and Anne (Jim) Podraza, Walnut, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Joan Tomasek, Beckley, West Virginia, Betty J. Tomasek, Amery, Wisconsin; and many other relatives and friends.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents; son, Bruce; brother, Dick; brothers-in-law, John, Victor, and Lavern; mother-in-law, Vlasta Tomasek.

Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 5th at United Lutheran Church in Lincoln.

Family will be greeting visitors from 5 until 8 p.m., Wednesday, March 4th at Roper and Sons ‘O’ Street Chapel.

Memorials to Nebraska Statewide Arboretum, Carol Joy Holling Camp in Ashland, or United Lutheran Church ELCA.
