My father, Chuck Herpolsheimer, was a childhood and lifelong friend of Wayne’s. Wayne was in my parent’s wedding in 1952. But the best stories my dad remembered were about their childhood games of Marbles! My dad kept the beautiful marbles he won in those games and we still have them! In 2009 I went to Lincoln to visit my cousin and called Wayne and we had a wonderful visit about their friendship. Wayne shared that he remembered my dad being the best marble shooter on the block! My father had dementia and passed in Dec 2015 but kept a jar of those marbles in his room til his last day. Their friendship lasted a lifetime (and so did the marbles!) even though they would go years without contact. My deepest condolences to you all. I’m sorry I didn’t see this til now. I was playing marbles with my 11 yr old grandson and it jarred my memory of Wayne and Chucks friendship so I checked to see if he was still alive. Yes, we played with the same marbles from the 30’s and 40’s! (Wayne said my dad’s nick name was Chick).

I worked with Wayne for many years at the gas company. He was a joy to be around. Always pleasant. One of the brightest people I knew. When I came to work in Lincoln, Wayne made me feel right at home. Just a great all-around guy. He will be missed. Rest in Peace, my friend.
