Obituary

W. Scott Davis

June 10, 1949 - August 6, 2025

William Scott Davis, aged 76 years of Lincoln, NE, passed away peacefully August 6, 2025. He was born June 10, 1949, in Omaha, NE, to Stephen M. and Mary Lou (Johnson) Davis of Plattsmouth, where he grew up.

Scott graduated from Principia Upper School in St. Louis, MO, and attended the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA, graduating in 1971.  He returned to Nebraska, attending the University of Nebraska College of Law, and graduated with distinction in 1974.  Following law school, Scott was chosen as Clerk for the Honorable Robert Van Pelt, Senior U.S. District Court Judge in Lincoln, NE.  In 1975, he accepted a teaching position at the University of Indiana School of Law for one year.  Returning to Lincoln, Scott began a 30-year association with the Keating, O’Gara, Davis & Nedved law firm.  During that time, he also served on the boards of NEBHELP, Inc. and the Foundation for Educational Funding, Inc. (FEF) and was President of FEF from 1998-2001.  Scott subsequently joined the Baylor Evnen law firm in Lincoln where he retired in 2024 after nearly 15 years.

An avid golfer, Scott enjoyed weekly rounds with his friends and family.  From 2008-2011, he served on the board of the Country Club of Lincoln and was Club President in 2011. He also loved hunting and fishing, especially the trips to Canada with his two sons.  His quick wit, sense of humor, integrity, patience and generous spirit made him a great husband, father, and friend to those who knew him.

Scott is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Linda (Niebuhr), two sons, Morgan (Anne) and Matt Davis, and grandchildren Hadley, Brooks, Avery, James, and Cate. His brother, Spencer (Vivian) Davis of Bellevue, NE.

Linda, I am so sorry to learn about Scott‘s passing. He was an incredible man and I thought the world of him. Even though I’ve been in Oklahoma for 36 years I’m still a Nebraskan at heart. I shall always remember the two of you and what great people you are.

Linda, Lang and I send our deepest sympathy to you and your boys and families. I will remember Scott with love and admiration, as a fine gentleman possessed of a rare and brilliant mind, a witty even quirky sense of humor, a ready laugh, and a fearless approach to his work. He was a strong, steady colleague, without airs or pretense. He was very good to me and very dear to me. I missed him greatly when he moved down the street and reveled in our rare chance encounters thereafter. Scott made an enormous contribution to the life and reputation of our firm, and to the formation of its lawyers. Scott was proud of his family, deeply devoted to you and to your boys. I pray for his peaceful rest and for your aching hearts.

Linda, Scott was not only our excellent family attorney for 30 plus years but became a friend. I can’t imagine how heart sick you must feel. I pray that fond memories of the past help fill the emptiness you feel now. With prayers and blessings
