Verl was born on July 26, 1938, in Shenandoah, IA, to David Doyle Flack and Margaret May (Henn) Flack and grew up on the family farm north of Westboro, MO.
In his youth, Verl was involved in football, basketball, and school government; he especially loved Rough Riders, a 4-H horseback riding club. He graduated from Westboro High School in 1956, earned a BA in business administration and education from Tarkio College, Tarkio, MO, and an MA in school administration from the University of Nebraska. Verl and his wife Judy first met in Rough Riders, then dated while he attended Tarkio College, marrying in 1961. They were blessed with two children, Nancy and Paul.
Verl was an educator and school administrator, teaching business, coaching, and mentoring student councils in Alvo-Eagle, Tri-County, Fremont-Mills (Iowa), and Waverly District 145. Verl loved working with students and was remembered as kind and fair, and an excellent teacher. Verl and Judy welcomed 15 foster children and 6 foreign exchange students into their home during their marriage. They lived in Waverly for 36 years before moving to Lincoln in 2010.
Verl was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served twice as Bishop. After retirement, he and Judy served as Church Education System missionaries at Ball State University in Muncie, IN, teaching and coordinating university-level religion classes and activities. He was a founding member of the Greater Waverly Kiwanis Club and served many years as Treasurer of the Lincoln Area Retired School Personnel (LARSP) organization.
Verl is survived by his loving wife, Judy Mertz Flack, his daughter Nancy Sue (Jim) Teusch of Jefferson, IA, and son Paul Scott (Julie) Flack of Heber, UT; grandchildren Ben (Jacki) Teusch, Lauren (Ben) Turbes, Beth (Trae) Fowkes and Claire Teusch; and Sam (fiancé Julia), Alex (Julie), Ryan, Callen, and Brynna Flack; great-grandchildren Spencer, Violet, and Levi Teusch; James and Luke Fowkes.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 21th at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 640 N 56th street, Lincoln, NE 68504.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 20th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Roper and Sons Midtown Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ street, Lincoln, NE 68510.
Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 22 at Center Grove Cemetery in Tarkio, Missouri.
