Veldon served in the US Navy (10/50 – 8/54) during the Korean War as an Air Traffic Controller stationed in Newfoundland. Following his discharge from the Navy he attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and received his BA degree. He was a member of the Alpha Gamma Sigma fraternity and Sigma Nu where he was president of the house.
Veldon married Suzanne Swingle on June 12, 1959, and raised three daughters, Sally, Betsy, and Julie.
Veldon’s time in the Navy inspired him to get his private pilot’s license. He spent many years enjoying his time in the air, he became glider certified at the Air Force Academy during that time. His favorite pastimes were fishing, hunting, water skiing, and snow skiing.
Veldon is survived by his wife Suzanne; daughters Sally (James) Conley and their daughters Mary Kathryn and Claire, all of Denver, CO, Elizabeth Lewis and her son Sidney (Whitney) Stuffle and their 4 children of Tucson, AZ, Dr. Calli (Dan) Stuffle, Beaverton, OR and Julie Lewis (Jude), Sacrament, CA; several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents and sisters.
