Velda Anderson

December 30, 1912 - January 3, 2014

Velda Elizabeth Benda Anderson, 101, of Lincoln, died Friday (1-3-14). Born (12-30-12) in Wymore, NE to Joseph and Ida Frances (Conklin) Benda. She was a longtime member of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church where she served on the Vestry. A member of the Altar Guild for many years. Honorary member of Tuesday Review Club. Member of P.E.O. Chapter FF, Daughters of the Nile.

In 1983, she helped to organize the Lincoln Alzheimer’s Association. A lifetime member of the University of Nebraska Alumni Association and the Touch Down Club. Member of the French Huguenot Society of Nebraska, the State Historical Society.

Graduated from Wymore High School in 1931, received her AB degree from the University of Nebraska in 1935 and a Juris Doctorate degree from the Nebraska College of Law in 1938.

She was the Legal Consultant for the State Department of Assistance and Child Welfare, an attorney for the United States Agriculture Department in the Regional Office in Lincoln and in Washington D.C. and on the faculty of the Law College. She retired in 1950.

Married to Sidney S. Anderson in 1949. They had one son, Sidney E. Anderson. Survived by son, Sidney (Shirley) Anderson, Rancho Murieta, CA; granddaughters, Susan Rockwood and Sharon Wagner, grandsons, Steven Anderson and Sidney Anderson, Jr.; 5 great grandchildren.

Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 6001 ‘A’ Street with The Rev. Susanna DesMarais officiating.

No Visitation/Cremation.
