Stella Karrys Waldron, age 85, passed away on August 28, 2018, after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease with loving staff at Sumner Place. Stella was born in Iowa Falls, Iowa to Anastasious and Heleni (Sakellarakis) Karamitsanis on July 21, 1933.
Her first job was working for her father at the Princess’ Cafe in Iowa Falls, Iowa as a waitress during Highschool and Jr College. Stella graduated from Iowa Falls, Iowa High School in 1951 and continued her education at Ellsworth College in Iowa Falls, Iowa. She went on to Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa where she received a degree in Elementary Education. That’s also where she met her husband-to-be, John Norman Waldron. Stella and John were married on August 9, 1957 at St. Matthew’s by-the-Bridge Episcopal Church in Iowa Falls, Iowa. They lived in Waterloo, Iowa. Stella taught at Davenport Public School from 1956-1957 and went on to teach first grade at Waterloo Public School from 1957 to 1960. In 1960 Stella and John moved to Lincoln, Nebraska. Stella was a stay-at-home mother from 1960-1975. From 1975 to 1998, she worked as a pre-school and day care teacher, and Barberrio’s Cheese Shop in Lincoln, NE. After she retired in 1998, she worked part time at the Children’s Museum. Stella was a member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Lincoln, Nebraska. Her husband passed away on January 9, 1985 of cancer.
Stella enjoyed spending time with and cooking for her family and friends. She enjoyed traveling to visit family in Denver and Minneapolis. Stella sold her home June 2007 and moved to a retirement home at Gramercy Hill; then to Bickford Memory Care in February 2013 and Sumner Place Nursing Care Facility in October 2015.
Stella is survived by her daughter Anastasia (Stacy) Lynn Waldron, sons Andrew John Waldron and James Neal Waldron, granddaughter Ashley Nicole Waldron and grandson Jonathan Bryant Waldron, brother-in-law Charles Waldron, sisters Maria Winslow, Betty Lillie, Anna (Steve) Wafler and 2 nieces and 2 nephews. Stella was preceded in death by her husband John Norman Waldron, parents Anastasious and Heleni Karamitsanis, sister Katherine Karrys, brother Deno Karrys, sisters Marian Karrys and Kalopy Karrys, and brother-in-law Ben Winslow.
A memorial service will be held at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 2325 South 24th Street, Lincoln, NE 68502 on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. Interment Union Cemetery Iowa Falls, Iowa at a later date.
