She was the third of eight children and the oldest daughter. Being the oldest daughter in a large family, she had more responsibility to care for her siblings, expected to do housework when her mother was gone. Being in charge did not come naturally to Song due to her timid and quiet, humble nature. Song was challenged in that role when her mother would leave the house for work, attend Church or help neighbors.
Song attended school in Incheon. While in elementary school, she was disciplined for not taking her books home or not doing her homework. She later blossomed into a top student, qualifying by exam for one of the better high schools in Incheon. At some point after that, she graduated and worked in an office for a large construction company in Korea. In later years, she attended community colleges in California – Silicon Valley, and Hawaii.
She married Robert Walsh of Arkansas and had their first Son Patrick in Korea. They relocated to California and subsequently gave birth to their second son Joel in California. After their divorce, she then lived in California, Hawaii, and North Carolina. Through the Korean Church grapevine and restaurant connection, she found her way to North Alabama where she met her husband of 30 years. They subsequently married in Huntsville, Alabama on March 5, 1995, and had an outdoor ceremony for family later that year on July 4th. A new life was just beginning; one filled with a match between an electrical engineer and a Korean-American who loved going to Church and fellowshipping with others in the Christian Korean community. She enjoyed socializing and eating meals together with others from the Korean church. Song became a naturalized U.S. Citizen shortly after her marriage to Tom. In 2012 Song and her husband relocated to Lincoln, Nebraska to pursue a career change for Tom.
During her working career, Song held various positions, working in manufacturing, sewing, retail and restaurant sectors. One of her favorite jobs was during her Alabama years, working as a waitress at a Chinese buffet located near her home. She enjoyed serving customers, and eating well after they left. This would be one of the jobs Song held before retiring except for the occasional part-time help, primarily in 2007.
Her personal interests and hobbies were varied and changed throughout her life, including music, traveling, flowers/gardens, the beach, snorkeling, and ethnic foods. She enjoyed watching YouTube videos, usually relating to her hobbies and interests. Song enjoyed spending time with children too. She studied the Spanish language and practiced using this skill during some international trips. She was very proud of her two boys, Patrick and Joel, and the families they have built. Ultimately, Song’s love came from her faith and fellowship.
Surviving family members include sons: Patrick G. Walsh (Saori), California, Joel A. Walsh (Adrian), California, grandchildren: Sean, Erin & Murphy, siblings: Sung Kil Lim (brother), Song Hwa Lim (sister), Song Yeon Lim (sister), Song Ho Lim (brother), and Song Nan Lim (sister).
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dukjun and Euisun Lim, Song Mu Lim (brother) and Song Ok Lim (sister).
Song’s name said a lot for her, as she always had a church hymn or song about nature in her heart. She will be remembered well and dearly missed.
