Shirley May Roush was born March 3, 1922 to James and Edith Roush and grew up on a farm outside Butte in Boyd County, Nebraska. A fourth generation Nebraskan, she loved everything about the state. She taught in a rural one room school house before moving to Lincoln where she worked in the Agronomy department at UNL. She married her hometown sweetheart, Captain Don Clifton Oct 18, 1945 when he returned from WWII.
They went on to raise 4 children Connie Rath, Jim Clifton (Susan), Mary Reckmeyer (Matt) and Jane Miller (Ed) and 9 grandchildren, Nicole Clifton, Tom Rath (Ashley), Jon Clifton, Mark Reckmeyer, Jackie Clifton Daly (Joe), Lauren Reckmeyer Havens (Matt), Andy Reckmeyer, Meredith Miller, Mike Reckmeyer and 4 great grandchildren, Max Clifton, Harper Rath, Everett Rath and Joey Daly.
She loved animals, especially her many grand dogs. She always had a crossword puzzle or was playing scrabble or reading. She was an avid internet user from Facebook to email, and enjoyed her friends and the team at Legacy Estates. Some of her greatest joys were watching Husker volleyball and football and being with her kids. One of the state’s largest Husker fans will now have the best seat in the house.
