Obituary

Shaun A. Thompson

August 4, 1976 - July 4, 2025

Shaun Andrew Thompson, age 48, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home in the early morning hours of July 4, 2025, with his wife and their two beloved dogs, Mack and Molly, by his side.

Shaun was born on August 4, 1976, at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, and spent his childhood in Alta Vista, Kansas, and Lincoln, Nebraska. He was the beloved son of Sandra and Charles Thompson. Shaun graduated from Pius X Catholic High School in Lincoln in 1994, the same year he began his service in the Air National Guard, which continued through 2002. He never boasted about his service, but carried it with quiet pride.

He went on to earn a master’s degree in Computer Science from Georgia Tech and built a meaningful career as a software developer. Shaun was known for his creative problem-solving, love of innovation, and passion for building technology that made life easier for others. He worked for several companies during his career, including a chapter in Colorado Springs and later in Lincoln, most notably with Union Pacific Railroad.

On May 18, 2018, Shaun married the love of his life, Tiffany (Simonsen) Thompson, originally from Osceola, Nebraska. Together they built a marriage rooted in deep love, mutual growth, laughter, a bit of adventure, faith, and enduring companionship. Their bond was strong, intentional, and full of grace, filled with daily gratitude and a shared sense of purpose.

Of all his roles in life, Shaun was most proud of being a father. He deeply loved his children, daughter Shea and son Asher, who were the lights of his life. He delighted in their growth, shared in their joys, and carried them constantly in his heart.

Shaun also found meaning in serving others as a Teammates Mentor, offering encouragement and stability to local youth. He was kind, thoughtful, and deeply empathetic, always striving to meet people where they were and leave them feeling just a little more seen, heard, and loved.

A lifelong tech enthusiast, Shaun poured his curiosity into designing and perfecting his home theater, automating his home, and keeping up with the latest gadgets. He loved playing video games and hosting family and friends for movie nights, sharing the immersive joy of his custom-built home theater. He also had a passion for travel and a taste for adventure, and he most recently found joy in hiking with his wife while their dogs rode along in backpack carriers.

In recent months, Shaun found great comfort and renewal in his spiritual life. He loved his new church community and was looking forward to growing in faith alongside his wife. Shaun approached life with deep introspection and humility. He was honest about his own growth, aware of how his actions affected others, and was intentional about making amends. He was committed to treating people with empathy and grace. His quiet mission was to leave people better than he found them.

Shaun was preceded in death by his mother, Sandra Thompson. He is survived by his loving wife, Tiffany Thompson of Lincoln, NE; daughter Shea (August) VanCleave of Lincoln, NE; and son Asher Thompson of Lincoln, NE. He also leaves behind his father, Chuck Thompson; brothers Mark (Mel) Thompson, Paul (Nici) Thompson, and Christopher Thompson; sisters Lara (Chris) Collins and Meghan (John) Carlstedt; and many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and close friends.

A celebration of Shaun’s life will be held Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Horizons Community Church, 3200 Grainger Parkway, Lincoln, NE 68516.

Though his time here was far too short, Shaun’s love, integrity, and quiet grace will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
