Scotte Michael Hansen

Scotte Michael Hansen, 44, of Lincoln passed away July 19, 2018. He was born on August 26, 1973 in Lajes Field, Azores Island, Portugal to Michael H. and Linda S. (Smith) Hansen.

The groups, organizations and individual lives he impacted and was a part of is too long to list. Scotte’s life and impact on others can’t be described in a few short paragraphs, but we would like to share a bit of our love for this devoted husband, friend, son, father and grandfather.

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind.” This perfectly describes Scotte. These weren’t just words to him, they were his heart. “Go and make disciples” was not just a job, it was his passion. More than once he was overheard saying, “How can I slow down when so many people do not know Jesus?”

Scotte’s love for the Lord began when he fully accepted Jesus into his heart during his time at Northwest Missouri State, where he pursued a degree in Recreational Therapy. Feeling called to the ministry, Scotte attended Concordia Seminary, earning a Director of Christian Education (DCE) certification. During this time, he met his future wife, Annie. Their relationship was God-centered, and Scotte found the perfect opportunity to propose to Annie while they both led a youth trip to Wyoming. One evening as the youth and Scotte’s soon-to-be in-laws watched, Scotte got down on one knee and proposed at Christmas Meadows. Annie and Scotte were married on May 19, 2001, at the Fort Crook house in Omaha, NE.

Scotte’s first call led them to Hope Lutheran Church in South Sioux City, NE, where Scotte served as the Director of Christian Education. He later took a call to serve as the Director of Youth Ministries at Christ Lutheran in Lincoln, NE. During this time, he worked tirelessly to build up Room 211, a multisensory worship experience.

Scotte currently served as Director of Discipleship for Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. One of Scotte’s passions was Mission Matthew 28. As one of the founders, Scotte led many mission trips to Hong Kong through this mission organization before passing the reins. He also led mission trips to Costa Rica and Mexico.
Nine years ago, Annie and Scotte welcomed Lane to their family. While at Beautiful Savior, they also welcomed Nadia into their hearts, home and family. Lane finally had an older sibling whom he adored.
When not serving the Lord through active ministry events, Scotte most loved spending time with his family. They enjoyed camping and other outdoor activities. Scotte often could be found playing cards with friends or listening to music as he worked on a project in his workshop.

The simplicity of childhood appealed to Scotte’s love of a childlike faith. Annie bought him a red wagon for their first anniversary, knowing he would appreciate the happy memories it would evoke. One wagon turned to two and soon Scotte began receiving wagons from friends and family, turning into a collection comprised of wagons less than one inch in length to more than four feet. His cheerful collection spilled from home into his office at Beautiful Savior.

Disney World and the creative vision of Walt Disney inspired Scotte. He first experienced the magic of Disney World as a child, and he always wanted to share that feeling of joy and wonderment with others. Annie has always loved Mickey Mouse, but Scotte held a fondness for Donald Duck. That may be due to the tact that Donald Duck was far from perfect and bumbled through the cartoons yet was an integral part of the story – much like Peter, Scotte’s favorite person in the Bible.

None of these words, however, describe Scotte’s love for people. Scotte positively impacted people all over the world. He was the first to offer a smile or a word of encouragement. He listened to people discuss their shortcomings, frustrations, anger and confusion without judgment. Whether it was through boisterous exuberance or quiet contemplation, he gave people hope. He showed us that anyone – even someone as goofy, silly, and sometimes slightly irreverent as Scotte – can be a beloved child of God, loved and saved and with this knowledge boldly go into our world and share God’s love and grace with others.

Scotte’s family include his wife Annie; son Lane; daughter and son-in-law Nadia and David Batres; grandchildren Katerina and Natalia; father and step-mother Michael and Heidi Hutchison Hansen; mother Linda Hansen; brother and sister-in-law Ryan and Nikki Hansen; parents-in-law Ron and Faith Doerr; sister-in-law Cindy Doerr; brother-in-law Andrew Doerr.

Funeral Service: 4:00 p.m. Sunday, July 29, 2018, Christ Lutheran Church, 4325 Sumner Street with Rev. Dr. Luke Schnake officiating.

Visitation with family present will be from 5-7 p.m. Saturday at Roper and Sons South Lincoln Chapel, 3950 Hohensee Drive (40th & Yankee Hill Rd.).

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating as you feel led to one of the organizations dear to Scotte’s heart: Give Kids the World, Mission Matthew 28 or Educational Fund for Lane.
