Obituary

Ruby Katheryn Hixon

December 16, 1917 - April 23, 2009

Ruby Katheryn Hixon, 91, of Fort Collins, Colorado, formerly of Lincoln, passed away April 23, 2009, at Centre Avenue Health & Rehab facility.  Born in Loup City, Nebraska, December 16, 1917, to Nile and Bessie Campbell, Ruby grew up in Lincoln, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1936.

Ever a spunky woman, in 1933 she participated in the State Fair Walk-a-thon, walking for 986 hours before the truant officer insisted she return to school.  In 1938 she married Paul Hixon in Portland, Oregon, residing on the coast until they returned to Paul’s homestead in Chappell, Nebraska, in 1946.  Together they farmed, raising wheat, until 1965, when they moved to Lincoln.  In 1996 they moved to Fort Collins to be near two of their sons.  A master of the crochet hook, Ruby created hundreds of afghans for family and friends in her Fort Collins years.  Paul passed away October 2008.

Ruby is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law: Ronald Lee and Lois Hixon of Lamotte, Iowa, Gary Eston and Carol Ann Hixon and Timothy Ray and Kathy Hixon all of Fort Collins; sisters Lucille Lundy (Lincoln), Coral Wright (Bella Vista, Arkansas); brothers Charles “Chick” Campbell (Lincoln), Maynard and Norma Campbell (Des Moines, Washington), Al & Gery Campbell (Lincoln), Nile and Jerry Campbell (Greeley, Colorado); six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.  Her parents preceded her in death.
The family extends special thanks to her loving caregivers at New Mercer Assisted Living and Centre Rehab.

Memorials may be sent to the Community Foundation of Northern Colorado, Fort Collins Community Fund.
