Obituary

Ronald D. Peery

July 11, 1951 - December 17, 2022

Ron Peery passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, December 17, 2022. Ron was born on July 11, 1951, to Genevieve and Lawrence Peery in Nelson, NE. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1970, and later graduated from Doane College.

On June 5, 1971, Ron married Valerie Omel, his high school sweetheart. They celebrated 51 years of marriage. They had three children, and seven grandchildren whom he cherished. He enjoyed time with friends and family, golfing, traveling, attending all the grandkids sports, and tinkering in his barn.

Ron built a career starting with the Lincoln Fire Department, moving on to the Fire Prevention Bureau before retiring as the Head of the Building and Safety in 2011.  He took pride in establishing relationships and being a steward to his community.  Ron was strongly devoted to his circle of friends and family – always the first to jump in and lend a hand; regardless if he had experience or not.

Ron was involved with many community and professional organizations. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Sertoma, and Sesostris Shrine; past President and active member of the UNL match club supporting the women’s volleyball program.  Ron took pride and cherished his 40 years as the Assistant Director of the South Lincoln Track Club Little Green program, living by the motto of “you never stand so tall as when you stoop to help a child.”

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Val Peery and his children, Spencer (Mandy) Peery, Ryan (Heather) Peery, and Preston Peery, all of Lincoln.  Grandchildren, Mya Way, Tataum and Tenley Peery, Gavin and Cooper Peery (all of Lincoln), Payton Peery and Victoria Carmen (both of Florida).  Sister Dixie Horn (Larry Barry), brother Carl (Judy) Peery, sister-in-law Janice Peery, and brother-in-law Skeeter Omel along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday December 28th from 1-4 pm at the Lincoln Firefighters Hall at 241 Victory Lane.  Ron impacted so many lives and everyone who knew Ron is invited to come and share their memories.

Memorials can be sent in Ron’s honor to either the Shriners Children’s Hospital or Lincoln City Golf ‘Aces for Ager’ program to support youth.

I knew many firefighters back in the day,  my ex-husband and brother were also firefighters. Ron was always smiling and was so funny & when I worked at LLCHD they would come for physicals.  He always stopped by Dental to say hello to me. RIP Ron

Dear Val and family, My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. I thought of you when I hung the pheasant feather ornament on the tree this year. The LHS days have many great memories.
