Robert Tagg, 89, of Lincoln, peacefully passed away on Tuesday (2-7-12). Born (12-22-22) in York to Harold E. and Vilura (McDonough) Tagg.
Robert attended Doane College, leaving in 1942 to serve with the U.S. Army as a Captain (infantry officer) with the 88th Infantry Division in Italy where he participated in the liberation of Rome. He returned to Doane and married Marie Bloom in 1947. He became a special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, serving in Omaha, Camden, Ark., Newark, N.J. and Atlantic City, N.J., earning many accolades and awards. He returned to Lincoln as the senior resident agent, retiring in 1977. His law enforcement experience was put to good use as the executive director of the Nebraska Crime Commission and as the superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. Robert was a member of Lodge 34, A.F. & A.M., Schuyler, and Sesostris Shrine, Lincoln.
Robert and Marie were married for 48 years. She predeceased him in 1994. He is survived by four children, Marjorie Miller, Michael Tagg, Stephen Tagg, and Robert Tagg, seven grandchildren, Sarah Couch, Kathryn Ross, Jonathan and Lan Tagg, Faith Corbin, and Will and Molly Tagg, and three great-great grandchildren, Jack Couch, and Grace and Tessa Corbin.
Memorial service: 2 p.m. Saturday (2-11-12) St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 2325 South 24th Street. Fr. Craig Gavin, officiating. Inurnment in St. Matthew’s Columbarium.
