Bob was born in Dorchester, Nebraska, Aug. 3, 1935, to Earl and Louise (Dainton) Moser and grew up on a farm near there. He attended White Cloud Country School and Dorchester High School and graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in agricultural engineering.
He was commissioned as an ensign in the U.S. Navy, in which he served for 21 years, retiring in 1980 in the rank of commander. His career included service aboard the destroyer USS Taylor and amphibious ships USS Mathews, Monticello and Mobile. While he served on the Mathews, the ship was deployed to the Caribbean Sea in 1962 in support of operations during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He made several deployments to Vietnam waters aboard the Monticello and Mobile, earning the Navy Commendation Medal with one star, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation and the Combat Action Ribbon.
A designated Naval Ordnance Engineer, Bob was on the commissioning crew of the Polaris Missile Facility at Bangor, Washington in 1964. His ordnance credentials also led to service at Naval Ordnance Systems Command in Washington, Ships Part Control Center in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, and commanding officer of the Naval Magazine in Subic Bay, Republic of the Philippines. His final tour of duty was at Naval Material Command in Washington, D.C., where he managed Navy ammunition programs. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal at retirement.
After retirement, he earned an MBA at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. He worked at TRW in the D.C. area, where he supported Navy amphibious ship building projects and later the FAA Air Traffic Control system upgrade.
Bob married Alice Kaye Newbold in 1959. In 1996, with the family nest empty, Bob and Kaye retired, had a home built in Mt. Holly Springs, Pennsylvania, where they (both having grown up in small towns) enjoyed returning to that easy lifestyle. They traveled to Scotland and Ireland, took cruises and hit all 50 states at least once. They also engaged in the sport of Volkswalking, enjoying 67 10K walks in 35 states, the District of Columbia and two Canadian provinces.
In 2007, feeling something missing in their lives, they went back to their Methodist roots, becoming active members of the Mt. Holly Springs Methodist Church. In 2018, they moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where they took up apartment life next to a pond and golf course, equally entertained by the antics of wildlife and golfers, and became members of Trinity United Methodist Church. He lived his last year in assisted living, well cared for by staff at The Knolls, Traditions Health Hospice and The Key home health care.
He was active for many years as an instructor in the AARP Driver Safety Program and was a life member of the Military Officers Association of America. He served on the Amelia Givin Library Board of Trustees in Mt. Holly Springs and the Mt. Holly Springs Borough Council. He was an active member of the Mt. Holly Springs United Methodist Church and served as chairman of the Leadership Council.
