My boyfriend and I met Rebecca and Dustin in Cancun Mexico. We became fast friends during that trip. They even came down to Kansas City for a visit. Rebecca was funny, kind, and an all around amazing human. She touched many through her work and personal life. Rebecca will be missed dearly. Until we meet again…..

Rebecca was assigned to work in a setting where many people see only walls and confinement. The WISR and MISTR participants that she taught, however, saw a classroom. Rebecca was innovative and came up with ideas outside of the curriculum she was assigned to teach. Rebecca understood that a person’s life is not defined by their mistakes, but by their capacity to learn and grow. Inside the jail, Rebecca created a space of hope. Many WISR & MISTR participants will remember her patience, her unwavering support, and the genuine care Rebecca showed to them. Rebecca took the time to listen, to encourage, and make a difference in their lives. Rebecca’s legacy is not measured in test scores, but in the lives she helped redirect—in the participants who found confidence in a new skill, a love for reading, or the hope of a brighter future. Rebecca’s dedication was a light in a place of darkness, and her lessons extended far beyond the subject matter. Rebecca taught resilience, dignity, and the profound power of believing in oneself, even when no one else would. I am saddened by her loss, but so deeply grateful for her extraordinary contribution. To the world, Rebecca may have been a jail teacher, librarian, correctional specialist but to her participants, Rebecca was a world-changer. May she rest in peace, and may her work continue to light the path for others.

Rebecca – always a smile, always a pleasant conversation, always positive attitude. Her brightness will be missed at work among co-workers and inmates as well. A passion of truly wanting to help people better themselves is sometimes hard to possess in a daily setting. Prayers to all her family & loved ones.

Her smile was always the brightest every single day. She cared for everyone with no expectations of anything in return. She brought joy in countless ways, from her small jokes to listening to those who needed it most. I am blessed to have ever met her and worked with her. Bolli, will be missed.

Rebecca, You will truly be missed by so many. Your heart for the people the Lord placed in your sphere of influence was immense. Whether it was working with me to get incarcerated men and women into programming to hopefully impact their lives for the better, teaching classes yourself to impart wisdom and hope into their lives, or just joking around with us in the office, you made a massive difference. The world is lesser now because you are no longer here. But take heart, you impacted more lives than you will ever truly fathom. May the Lord bless your family and bring them comfort and peace. May you forever rest in peace with your beloved husband. We’ll see you soon, my friend.

The Light You Brought You worked where hope can feel so small, Yet you helped it find its way— Through programs built with heart and care, You changed lives every day. You listened when few others would, With patience, grace, and calm, You offered empathy and truth, A healing kind of balm. Your kindness wasn’t just your gift, It was your quiet power— To lift a soul, to guide a path, To bring light to the darkest hour. The walls could never dim your heart, Or dull the good you gave, You showed what true compassion means— How love and strength behave. Now every step within these halls Still echoes what you did, A legacy of gentle care, And lives forever mended. Though we must say goodbye for now, Your spirit lingers near— In every act of kindness still, We’ll feel that you are here.
