Obituary

Randy Ray Erb

June 7, 1949 - December 22, 2022

Randy Ray Erb was born June 7, 1949 in Milford, NE to Donna (Hemsath) and Milton Erb. Passed away at age 73 in Lincoln, Nebraska on Dec. 22, 2022.

Randy graduated From Milford High School in 1968 and from Nebraska Vocational Technical College in 1970. He opened a photography business, Randy’s Studio, in Milford in June 1970. Randy and Dee Hunter were married on March 21, 1976. Together they had 2 children of whom he was very proud, Denée and Matt.
Randy and Dee took portraits throughout their life together. A true lifelong learner, Randy delighted in learning new photography techniques and Photoshop skills. In his photographic career, he saw the change from primarily black & white to color photography, from strictly indoor to outdoor portraits, and from film to digital photography and Photoshop. Randy loved meeting new people through the Studio, and working with longtime clients was a joy and an honor for him. Although they sold the Studio building in 2021 after over 51 years, Randy continued taking portraits through this year.
Randy is survived by his wife, Dee; their children and spouses, Denée (Paul) Janda of Denver and Matt (Morgan Beach) Erb of Lincoln; his siblings, Lynn (Gloria) Erb, Jeani (Pete) Karubos, Tom (Margaret) Erb, Gordon Erb; sisters-in-law, Rae (Pat) Hunter-Pirtle and Kay (David) Hunter-Chester; uncles Ron (Pam) Erb and Delroy (Alice) Hemsath; numerous beloved nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Randy was predeceased by his parents and his niece, Stephanie Karubos.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Milford Public Schools Backpack Program, Lincoln Crossroads Music Festival, First-Plymouth Congregational Church Medical Debt Retirement Program.

We first met Randy when my husband, Jim, was Junior class sponsor for the proms starting in 1978 through the 80’s. He took our picture every year, then our kids prom and graduation pictures in 96, 98, & 2000. His talent & friendship brought us many great memories! Our deepest sympathy to all his family!

Of the many memories we have throughout a decades long friendship, we remember us taking picture of Randy in Estes Park in front of a beautiful Ford Mustang car, a beaming smile on his face, cracking jokes and yet being very supportive of our poor work. We were privileged, as many of us were, Randy called us friends.

As a youngster Randy taught all of us that nothing was impossible. I remember the times in his darkroom, his constant ‘celebrations’, and a never ending positive attitude.

I went to country school with Randy and then town school until graduation. Definitely a one-of-a kind nice guy.

I will never forget his patience with us as he took our graduation photos. He also did a wonderful job with my wedding photos. I love the unique shots he got. He will be greatly missed.
