When he was 3 years old, Randy and his family moved to Lincoln, NE, where he attended Riley Elementary and Whittier Jr. High School. His favorite memory to share about his youth was his time spent at the skating rink where he could out skate many and made lifetime friends.
Randy had huge faith in God and he loved to talk about it. His favorite thing to say was “I’m walking in the grace of God” and that he did! Randy found God in his late teens and was baptized in the Summer of 1978. In March of 1994, College View Church welcomed his membership.
He started working for the Lincoln Humane Society at age 19 and transitioned over to animal control as an officer where he gave 42 years before he retired at age 62. He had a huge sweet spot for animals, both inside and outside of work. He loved to adopt the shelter dogs that no one else wanted.
Randy was a man of many hobbies: gun enthusiast, metal detecting, fishing, skating, photography, collecting crystals, cemetery enthusiast, playing pool, and riding Ryker 3-wheel motorcycles. Randy loved cooking and was always eager to see photos of everyone else’s food, too. He loved to talk and keep up with friends and family on the phone. He will be deeply missed.
The family would like to extend immense gratitude and thanks to the brave men, Security Officer Steven Creps and State Trooper Ben Nguyen, who risked their own lives, entering the burning house to save Randy. Your selfless act will not be forgotten.
Further thanks to the incredible staff at the St. Elizabeth Burn Center for their compassion and care.
Thank you to the Humane Society for their care of the lost animals and surviving dog.
And finally, thanks to all the friends and family who loyally showed support for Randy and his family and who offered countless prayers.
Family members include his daughters Dani (Corey) Lukas, Randi Sipp, and Jamie (Shawn) Brookins; grandchildren Austyn, Wesson, Melanie, and Damon Lukas, Marcus Burns, and Maliyah Brookins. Preceded in death by his parents.
