Phyllis graduated from Wilber High School in 1941 and was Valedictorian of her class. She was the recipient of a Regents Scholarship to the University of Nebraska as well as a scholarship to the Church School College of Nebraska and several other business colleges. Her attendance at the University of Nebraska was interrupted by her serving as a “Government Girl” clerk-typist for the FBI in Washington DC for 8 months following our entrance into WWII after Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and later her service as a WAVE in the US Navy for one year (1944-45) during WWII. She returned to the University in 1946 and met Paul Hafer Schupbach, a returning Army veteran. They were married June 9, 1947, and graduated from UNL January 1949. They shared a love for our country, reading, music, dancing, dogs, and outdoors.
Phyllis and Paul lived in Lincoln most of their loving, fulfilling marriage. They had four beautiful sons, John Robert, Paul Christian, Phillip Greer and Neal Arthur. She taught pre-school and then in the Lincoln Public Schools as a kindergarten and special education teacher, retiring in 1987.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul, grandparents, son Neal, grandson Marco Schupbach, sister Bernice and husband Glenn Zajicek, sister-in-law and brother-in law Imogene and Fred Dykemann, nephews William and Thomas Zajicek, many special friends, neighbors, and classmates who all enriched her life.
She is survived by her sons John (Kay), Paul (Nancy) and Phillip (Miyoung) Schupbach; grandchildren Amy, Libby, Meg, Jon, Brian, Kirsten, Becky, Sarah, Luis; great grandchildren Drew, Sophie, Davis, Connor, Theo, Mira, Avery, Shannon, Anthony, Nora and Olivia.
Her wishes for all are peace and love.
