Obituary

Paul W. Gana

September 9, 1944 - March 4, 2025

Paul W. Gana, 80, of Martell, Nebraska, passed away on March 4, 2025. He was deeply loved and will always be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family and his unforgettable sense of humor.

Born and raised in Martell, Paul was a dedicated farmer and a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He graduated from Sprague-Martell High School and attended college for a year before deciding to follow his true passion—farming. He began his career helping local farmers before purchasing his own farm in 1965. He farmed tirelessly until his retirement in 2020.

Paul is survived by his sons, Craig (Lori) Gana and Kirk Gana, both of Martell, Nebraska; his cherished grandchildren, Kylie, Kyson, and Kaden; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Ethel Gana of Martell, Nebraska; his sisters, Joyce and Phyllis; and his beloved wife of 59 years, Sharon Gana.

Paul embraced the simple joys of life—traveling to Texas as a snowbird with his wife, coyote hunting with greyhounds, fishing, hosting family gatherings, card parties with friends, and cheering on Husker volleyball. He took great pride in supporting his grandchildren in all their activities. Known for his endless jokes and warm generosity, Paul had a special way of making others smile. He enjoyed handing out treats at his grandsons’ sporting events and around the farm. He was also known for his countless laps around the section, rides on his side-by-side, and his close connections with the employees at his son and daughter-in-law’s business, Gana Trucking and Excavating. He treasured all the friends he made over the years and put extra effort into maintaining those friendships.

Paul’s legacy of hard work, love, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

My condolences to the Gana family. I will forever remember Paul through basketball. He was so supportive and dedicated to his grandchildren’s activities. Many road trips made by Paul and Sharon. They were always there, I don’t think there was ever a game that Paul didn’t greet me with a big smile and make me laugh somehow, he will be truly missed.

I will always remember Paul as the man with a good joke and a treat such as a donut or something of that nature. Every time I would go to the sand pit or haul silage from the Gana fields. I have worked for Gana trucking for 16 and 1/2 years now. Paul would always come racing up there in his side by side and have a good joke for me and a treat of some kind and you never knew it may be a donut or some kind of jerky. I always looked forward to seeing him on any given day just for the conversation with him.He will be greatly missed. He was quite the man.

So sorry to hear about this. Bre and I had a ton of fun with Paul when he would drive through the neighborhood to check on his “kids” and he always had joke and a hug for Bre. We will always cherish the memories from Paul and Sharon.

I grew up on a family farm just a few miles from where Paul grew up with his Mom and Dad; my Aunt Ethel and Uncle Albert. On our visits, I remember Paul’s humor and motorcycle habits. We played, we jumped, we got dirty, and we laughed a lot. As we matured, we married and still got dirty and laughed a lot. On one of Paul and Sharon’s trips to Texas, they drove over for a visit to our acreage in Loxley, Alabama. I will always remember Paul’s unique smile, laughter and sense of humor. I wish Paul and Sharon’s family and friends peace and love.
