Michael L. ‘Mike’ Jeffrey

June 18, 1944 - October 10, 2009

Michael L. ‘Mike’ Jeffrey, 65, Lincoln, died Saturday (10-10-09). Born (6-18-44) in Florence, South Carolina to R. Lloyd and Letha (Pettit) Jeffrey.

Attorney. Graduate of Southeast High School, University of Nebraska Lincoln where he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity and UNL College of Law graduating Cum Laude in 1969, member of Law Review and Order of the Coif. JAG Captain in U. S. Army serving 4 years, one of which was in DMZ in Korea. He earned at LLM in Taxation from the Graduate College of Law at New York University. After practicing law in Florida for two years, he returned to Lincoln to in 1975 and practiced law with his father before starting his own firm, Jeffrey, Hahn, Hemmerling & Zimmerman PC in 1984 with offices in Lincoln and York, NE. He retired on June 18, 2009. Member: Westminster Presbyterian Church, American Bar Association, Florida State Bar Association, Nebraska State Bar Association, Lincoln Bar Association. He also had his CFP (Certified Financial Planner), CSA (Certified Senior Advisor), AIFA (Accredited Investment Fiduciary Advisor). He loved traveling, reading and was an avid golfer. He belonged to many golf clubs including the Country Club of Lincoln and The Citrus Golf Resort, LaQuinta, CA.

Family members include wife: Jean; daughters, sons-in-law: Jana Jeffrey Franklin and Rick Franklin, St. Louis, MO, Jennifer Jeffrey Kirkland and Matthew Kirkland, Lincoln; grandchildren: Knox Michael Franklin, St. Louis, MO, Charles Douglas and Theodore Michael Kirkland, Lincoln; step-grandchildren: Patrick John and Kaley Michele Kirkland, Lincoln; sister, brother-in-law: Dr. Linda Jeffrey and Dr. John Frisone, Woodstown, NJ; brother-in-law: Jon Hoffmaster, Omaha; sisters-in-law: Margie Hoffmaster, Omaha, Anne Pittock, Lincoln; nephews: Scott Pittock, Omaha, Dave Pittock, New York City, NY, Jeffrey, Lloyd and Michael Frisone, Woodstown, NJ; nieces: Meg Hoffmaster Connelly and Elizabeth Hoffmaster Gregson, both of Atlanta, GA; mother-in-law: Nadine Hoffmaster, Lincoln. Preceded in death by parents.

Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Thursday (10-15-09) Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2110 Sheridan Blvd. Rev. Dr. Andrew McDonald officiating.
