Maurine L. Ross, 94, Lincoln, passed away on Tuesday (8-3-10). Born (1-26-16) in Detroit, Michigan to Maurice and Blanche (Couturier) Martinson. She was a graduate of Elk Rapids, Michigan high school, received her BS in Education from Western State Teachers College in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Married James Ross in 1941 who preceded her in death on March 12, 2010. Maurine taught secondary English, French, Latin and Algebra in Alpena, Michigan and Laramie, Wyoming. After moving to Lincoln she worked in the UNL Ticket office for 20 years. She especially enjoyed reading, playing cards, crosswords, Nebraska football, her “B & S Club, and trips back to Michigan for family reunions.
Family members include daughters, sons-in-law: Sharon and Maynard Smidt, North Platte, Peg and Larry Honeycutt, Lincoln, Kathy and Jim Mischnick, Eagan, MN; grandchildren, spouses: Kim and Jeff Ridder, Lincoln, Kristi and Sean Murphy, Omaha, Jeff and Taneca Smidt, Commerce City, CO, Jen and Kyle Utemark, Lincoln, Jamie and Jeff Semrad, Lincoln, Michael and Stephanie Mischnick, Lakeville, MI; great grandchildren: Cole, Maddison, Cody, Rachel, Preston, Payton, Griffin, Blake, Andrew, and Julianne. Preceded in death by husband, James, sisters Mavis Smith and Denice Baldwin.
Celebration of Maurine’s Life will be 11:00 a.m. Friday (8-6-10) Roper and Sons Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ Street. Private graveside committal service.
