Mary (Nancy) Dobler, 88, of Lincoln, passed away on March 31, 2017, at the Martin House, Tabitha Health Care Services, after suffering a stroke in June of 2016. She was born to James and Irma McMullan in St. Joseph, Missouri on July 2, 1928 where she grew up as the second oldest of three children. Nancy graduated from the Convent of the Sacred Heart High School in St. Joseph. While attending St. Joseph Junior College Nancy met the love of her life Bill Dobler who was also attending the Junior College after his return home from the Navy and serving in WWII. They were married August 21, 1948 and then made their home in Lincoln.
Throughout her adult life, Nancy was an active volunteer, community supporter, and dedicated wife and mother. She was a long time parishioner of the Cathedral of the Risen Christ Church. Nancy enjoyed several years working at the UNL ticket office. She was a member of the Altar Society, past President of the school PTA, and participated in the hour of adoration. She was a member of the Lincoln Symphony Orchestra Guild, the Elks Club and Legion Club.
After her husband’s retirement, Nancy and Bill spent many years traveling in Europe and across America, including an annual trip to Colorado where they stayed at a cabin on The Big Thompson river. She along with Bill, were huge Cornhusker Football fans. They had season tickets since the early 1950’s. She was an avid bridge player even during her most recent years at Savanah Pines you could always find her playing a hand of bridge.
Nancy was a wonderful friend to many. She was always willing to lend a hand or help out anyone who needed it. She will be remembered for her kindness, her caring ways, and her never ending smile.
Nancy is survived by her son, Jim (Janie) Dobler of Lincoln, grandchildren, Matt Dobler, Nate (Alexis) Dobler, and Cara (Steve) Ashmore, her daughter, Lisa Arter of Lincoln, grandchildren, Alison (Patrick) Kelley, Jess (Clarissa) Arter, Natalie (Jeff) Remis; daughter Christy Pearson of Sioux Falls, SD, grandchildren Shannon Matthews and fiancé Micha Stolton, Stephanie (Jim) Breuer, Alex Matthews; ten great grandchildren and sister, JoAnne Sommers of St. Louis, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 64 years, William O. Dobler; son Gregory William Dobler; son in laws, Mark D. Arter and Richard L. Pearson and brother James (Dan) McMullan of Kansas City, MO.
Rosary at 6:30 p.m. Monday April 3, 2017, at Roper and Sons Funeral Home,4300 O Street. Services to be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday April 4, 2017 at the Cathedral of the Risen Christ, 3500 Sheridan Blvd, Lincoln, NE.
