Martha Love Wood Hardin

January 1, 1918 - November 16, 2010

Martha Love Wood Hardin, age 92, passed away on November 16, 2010.  For more than 70 years, she was the beloved wife of the late Clifford M. Hardin.  She received a bachelor’s degree with honors, majoring in math, from Purdue University, where she was president of Mortar Board and a member of Phi Beta Kappa.  After college, she was a reference librarian at the University of Chicago.  She served in many volunteer capacities, including as chair of the Nebraska Heart Fund, a member of the U.S. President’s Committee on the Handicapped, and on the Board of the YWCA in St. Louis and Washington, D.C. and the St. Louis Symphony.  She warmly welcomed many into their home as wife of the University of Nebraska Chancellor and wife of the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture.  She was a member of a number of organizations, including DAR, Pi Beta Phi and PEO in Lincoln and St. Louis.

She is survived by her children, Sue (Larry) Wood, Clifford W. (Glenna) Hardin, Cynthia (Robert) Milligan, Nancy (Douglas) Rogers, and James (Mary Pat) Hardin; her fifteen grandchildren and their spouses; and her twenty-three great-grandchilden.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 21, 2010 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2110 Sheridan Boulevard, Lincoln.
