Martha Ann Hatchett Mueller, of Scottsdale, Arizona passed away on September 1, 2016 surrounded by her loving children.
A memorial service will be held for family and friends on Sunday, October 2nd at 2 p.m. at First Plymouth Church in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Martha was born September 3, 1931 in Amarillo, Texas to Mr. and Mrs. Capres S. (Aleene) Hatchett I. She grew up in Texas, the youngest of three children. After graduating from Amarillo High School, she attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas majoring in business administration. While there, she was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. Inspired by her older brother’s interest in medicine, she then attended the University of Nebraska Medical Center receiving a certificate in radiologic technology. It was in Omaha where she met and married lawyer and former University of Nebraska football player, William P. “Rocky” Mueller. They lived in Omaha until 1961 when they moved to Ogallala.
In addition to raising her five children, Martha was an active member of the Ogallala community. Over the years as her children grew older, she worked as Women’s Page Editor for the Keith County News. She pursued her interest in medicine working as a surgical scrub tech, x-ray technologist, and respiratory therapy assistant at the Ogallala Community Hospital. For a period of time, Martha ran a preschool in her home. She served on the Governor’s Commission on the Status of Women in Nebraska and was a member of PEO.
After her children graduated from high school, Martha moved to Lincoln and later to Scottsdale, Arizona where she has lived since 1985. While there, she was a licensed realtor and worked as a medical secretary until her retirement. She was a member of the Scottsdale community and volunteered at the Civic Center, the Scottsdale Memorial Library and Scottsdale Memorial Hospital.
Martha was an avid reader and world traveler but her greatest joy came from being a loving and devoted mother to her children. She never missed a field trip, music concert, athletic event or school program. Even when they were grown, she was always available to travel across the country to help each of them settle into colleges, homes and careers. She carried on this warm and loving nature with her grandchildren who she adored.
Martha will be most remembered for her style and grace, and her natural ability to light up any room with her beautiful smile, infectious laughter and sense of humor.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, former husband William P. Mueller, brothers Morris and Dr. Capres S. Hatchett II, son Mark, niece and nephew Dana Hatchett Vanek and Capres S. Hatchett III. She is survived by her children William J. Mueller (Kim Robak) of Lincoln, Dr. Lori A. Harkins (Patrick Sheridan) of Grand Island, Chris M.
