Marilyn Mae Gadeken

February 16, 1935 - March 26, 2012

Marilyn Mae Gadeken, 77, Lincoln, went home to God’s care on Monday (3-26-12). Marilyn was born (2-16-35) at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska to August Heinrich Wilholm Matthes, Jr. and Alvina Fredricka (nee Stigge) Matthes. She was born ten minutes after her twin sister Marjorie. She was baptized at the hospital on the day of her birth. She was confirmed (4-10-49) at First Trinity Lutheran Church, Altona, Nebraska and attended 1-8 grades at First Trinity Lutheran School.

Marilyn graduated in 1953 from Wayne High School. Marilyn worked at the Wayne County Courthouse for three years until she married Richard Gadeken on (3-11-56). It was a double wedding ceremony shared with her twin sister, Marjorie at First Trinity Lutheran Church, Altona, NE. Marilyn and Richard had five children. Marilyn was active in bible studies, visiting shut-ins, preparing bulletins, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and volunteering in her congregation wherever she saw an opportunity. She also enjoyed crocheting baby blankets for Newborns in Need, working on counted cross-stitch projects, and spending quality time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her brother: Donald Matthes, Wayne, NE; twin sister: Marjorie (Rolland) Victor; daughters: Arlys (John) Grondin, Ava Bulling, all of Olathe, KS; sons: Ryan (Marlo) Gadeken, Wichita, KS, Roger (Jennifer) Gadeken, Lincoln, NE, Gary (Amy) Gadeken, Seward, NE; grandchildren: Stephanie, Chrystal, Heather, Ashley, Kayla, Oliver, Amber, Reagan, Logan, Shelby, and Connor. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard, sister Orvilla Lewis.

Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m. Friday (3-30-12) Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 3825 Wildbriar Lane. Pastor Clint Poppe, officiating.

Visitation: 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Roper and Sons, 4300 ‘O’ Street.
