Margaret Lula Taylor Adkisson died Sunday, November 17, 2013 in Arden Hills, MN. She was born June 18,1923 to Lee and Lula (DeBusk) Taylor in Sargent, NE. Along with her sister Elinor and brother Floyd, she was raised in the York County area, graduating from York High School in 1941.
On June 22, 1941 she married Floyd G. Adkisson. They were blessed with four children, Jane, Carol, Bob, and Marilyn. The family lived in York and near Bradshaw until 1953 when they moved to Lincoln.
Margaret was an active member of First Christian Church in York and then Southview Christian Church in Lincoln. She taught preschool Sunday School, was active in Women’s Fellowship, and sang in the choir. She was a 4-H leader in Lincoln for many years. In her later years she resumed playing the cello, joining with a quartet of friends to play for church and other events. Margaret was always available and supportive her children, grandchildren, other family, and friends. In 2006 when she needed more assistance she moved to Arden Hills, MN. She died there peacefully on November 17, 2013, having just had a joyful time with her youngest great-grandchild Elizabeth Lula few days earlier.
She was predeceased by her husband Floyd in 1998, her son Bob, and two granddaughters Lisa McMahill and Maria Hammer.
She is survived by her daughters Jane (David) McMahill of Minneapolis, MN, Carol (Dennis) Ahrens of Valentine, NE, and Marilyn Olsen of Hickman, NE; her daughter-in-law Barb Adkisson of Colorado Springs, CO; 14 grandchildren: Dan (Carol Reed) McMahill of Woodstock, GA, Jeff (Tracee Imai) McMahill of Wexford, PA, Sarah (Shaun Kelly) McMahill of Minneapolis, MN, Matt (Danielle Sabatka) Hammer of Valentine, Julee (Larry) Hector of Lincoln, Tim Hammer of Los Angeles, CA, Ben (Leaha) Hammer of Ceresco, Nick Hammer of Valentine, and Curt Hammer of Valentine, Brian Adkisson of Colorado Springs, Cory (Allison) Adkisson of Colorado Springs, Cali Adkisson of Denver, CO, Eli Olsen of Hickman, and Emily Olsen of Hickman; 6 great-grandchildren Miller McMahill, Margaret “Maggie” McMahill, Noah Reed, Rowen Sabatka, Abraham Hammer, and Elizabeth R. Lula Zmiewski; sisters-and brothers-in-law Marion (Mary Ann) Adkisson of Las Cruces, NM, Doris French of Tucson, AZ, Letamae (Floyd) French of Thermopolis, WY, Celesta (Dale) Jacobsen of Phoenix, AZ, and Dorothy Ann (Kenneth) Wimmer of Benson, AZ; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Service on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Southview Christian Church, 2040 South 22nd St., Lincoln, with Pastor Kerry O’Bryant officiating. Burial at Lincoln Memorial Park. Visitation and family greetings Wednesday 5:00-8:00 PM Roper and Sons, 4300 ‘O’ St.
