Lois Opper Schwab, Ed. D., 90, of Lincoln, NE, passed away October 24, 2015. Born January 26, 1925 to Raymond and Lena (Schroeder) Opper. Lois and Kendall D. Schwab were married in 1949. Lois earned a Bachelor of Science (1946) and a Master of Arts (1947) at the University of Nebraska.
Member of Mortar Board, Omicron Nu, and Phi Upsilon. Her doctoral program in education psychology (1966) focused on preparation for research and teaching in the emerging field of rehabilitation. Lois’ commitment to family life and people with disabilities was shown through her teaching at UNL and her involvement and leadership in local, state and national organizations. Lois was chosen Nebraska Mother of the Year in 1987. In retirement, she worked through the American Mothers, Inc. organization to strengthen the moral and spiritual foundations of the family, and was President of American Mothers, Inc. from 1995-1997. Her church home was Calvary United Methodist Church where she served on state and national family life committees. The end of Dr. Schwab’s tenure at the University included: Associate Dean of Home Economics for research (1987-1990) and Interim Chair for Nutrition and Food Service Management.
Survivors include her children, Dr. Ronald (Diane) Schwab, Brian (Debra) Schwab, Dr. Kendra (Dave) Schwab Summers; grandchildren, Heather, Jason (Anna), Joel (Jennifer), Brandon (Michelle), Eric; great- grandchildren, Ashley, Olivia, Caroline, Hudson, and Caleb; brother, Larry (Myrna) Opper. Preceded in death by her husband Kendall.
Private graveside service at Lincoln Memorial Park.
Memorial Service: 11 a.m. Thursday (10-29-2015) at New Visions Community Church (Calvary U.M.C.), 1610 S. 11th St. with Rev. Jamie Norwich- McLennan officiating.
No visitation/cremation.
