Lewis Gene Hackley, 79, Lincoln, died Tuesday (4-15-08) after a year-long battle with lung disease.
Born March 7, 1929 to Tom and Carrie (Burbridge) Hackley in Lee’s Summit, MO., he graduated from the University Of Missouri School of Journalism in 1951. He then entered the Army, serving as a radio operator in Korea. After serving his country he worked at the Lee’s Summit Journal as a reporter and editor before starting his career in advertising with Spencer Chemical Co. in Kansas City, Mo. It was there he met Pat Combs; they were married Jan. 20, 1957.
Their son Colin was born in 1961 and a year later the family moved to Lincoln when Chip accepted a position with the advertising agency Swanson Sinky and Ellis. He worked at the agency, now known as Swanson Russell Associates, in a variety of roles including copy writer, account executive and senior vice president until December of 2007.
He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for 44 years serving as Elder and Deacon. Chip was a member of the YMCA, serving on their board of directors; he also volunteered as a tutor for the Lincoln Literacy Council and was a founding member of the South Side Canoeing Society.
He and Pat shared a love of family, friends, English bulldogs and travel near and abroad.
He is survived by his wife Pat, son, daughter-in-law: Colin and Laura Hackley, Tallahassee, FL, grandson Graham.
Memorial Service: 10:00 a.m. Friday (4-18-08) Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2110 Sheridan Blvd. Rev. Dr. Andrew McDonald and Rev. Sara Dingman officiating.
Graveside Service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday (4-19-08) Lee’s Summit Cemetery, Lee’s Summit. MO.
