Obituary

Leah J. (Peterson) Gaston

March 23, 1965 - February 10, 2022

Leah was born in Lincoln on March 23, 1965 to George and Harriet Peterson.  Leah grew up in the Lincoln Public Schools system and graduated from Lincoln Southeast in 1983.  She was a varsity golfer, with her teams winning State Championships in two of her three years.  She also loved her participation in the varsity swing choir Countesses and Noblemen.

Leah enjoyed many career fields until she met and married Mark Gaston of Ogallala, NE in March of 1993.  Their son Sam was born the end of that year and twin daughters Annie and Sarah followed shortly thereafter… which officially gave Leah her proudest career role of full-time mother.  She took great pride in her kids’ accomplishments throughout their lives.

After Mark’s passing in 2018, Leah continued to enjoy several career fields while most recently finding a passion to assist aging adults through Guardian Angels, serving those with in-home needs or just friendly conversation.

Leah was a beautiful soul, could count her enemies on zero fingers, and was always ready, willing, and able to “hug your neck”.

She is survived by parents George and Harriet Peterson of Lincoln, son Sam Gaston of Omaha, daughters Annie and Sarah of Lincoln, brother/sister-in-law Todd and Amy Peterson (Abby and Graham) of Lincoln; partner Bill Crawley, and many extended family members.

A celebration of Leah’s life will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church (2110 Sheridan Blvd., Lincoln NE 68502) on Saturday, February 19th at 2pm.

Memorials can be directed to JDRF (www.jdrf.org), Independence Center (https://www.bryanhealth.com/bryan-foundation/make-a-gift-online/ For Designation: “Independence Center”), Boys Town (www.boystown.org), or other entities you feel Leah cared about.
