Ken was born May 13, 1941 in Bertha, MN to Bernhardt and Viola (Rosell) Hultstrand, the oldest of 9 children. He attended country school during his elementary years and graduated from Parkers Prairie High School in 1959. He then went on to North Dakota State School of Science where he got a 2 year degree and was hired by IBM.
His career with IBM started in Lincoln, NE where he met Mary Ann Nyberg. Ken and Mary Ann were married in 1963 and raised their children Lori and David in Lincoln. After 25 years in Lincoln, IBM moved them to Rochester, MN where he finished his 35+ years with IBM. After 17 years in Rochester they moved back to Lincoln to be near Lori and her family. Ken was always very involved with his church whether it was First Free Church in Lincoln or Calvary Evangelical Free Church in Rochester. He served in many capacities at each church from chairman, to building committee chairman, to financial secretary and more. At both churches working with the sound system was his great joy! He spent hours working in this capacity and enjoyed every minute.
Ken is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, daughter Lori (Carl) Applegate of Lincoln, NE and son David (Pam) Hultstrand of Boiling Springs, SC. His grandchildren are Hayley Applegate of Durham, NC; Shelby Applegate of Lincoln, NE; Matt Hultstrand (special friend Ashley Affeldt) of Atlanta, GA; Emily Hultstrand (fiancee Chris Bartlett) of Warrior, AL; and John Hultstrand of Birmingham, AL.
