Julie Kay Nelson, 61, passed away on August 5, 2026, in Lincoln, NE. She was born on October 23, 1964, to Ray and Alice (Curtis) Lindekugel in McCook, NE.

She worked as a supervisor for State Farm Insurance. Julie was a member of Lincoln Berean Church. She was also an avid Husker volleyball fan for many years. She always enjoyed doing puzzles, playing video games, collecting cookie jars, caring for her dogs, and never turned down watching an episode of Jeopardy.

Julie is survived by her husband, Dennis; children, Dr. Travis Nelson (Hannah Lingafelt), Troy (Kelsey) Bohling, and Trina (John) Popple; brother, John (Gail) Lindekugel; father, Ray Lindekugel (Sue Smith); along with nieces, nephews, and many cousins. She is preceded in death by her mother, Alice, and brother, Jeff.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026, at the Youth Complex at Lincoln Berean (6400 S 70^th St, Lincoln, NE 68516), with a reception to follow. Please wear green in honor of Julie’s favorite color. An inurnment will be held at a later date.

Memorials are designated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Capital Humane Society, or K-Love Radio Network.

I have so many fond memories of Julie’s kindness, selflessness, smile, and laughter. Her positive attitude was contagious. I had the privilege of working with her for several years at State Farm where she was adored and respected by everyone. Her strength and commitment to her faith and family was always evident in how she spoke and carried herself. Dennis, you and Julie were an amazing couple, as I remember how you made others feel oh so very comfortable and valued. You fed off of each other and finished each other’s sentences. What a gift Julie was to so many. If this world only had more Julie’s in it, what a much more beautiful and caring world it would be. As a teenager, Julie created a puppet ministry for her church in Hayes Center. Her puppets were used many years as the weekly children’s sermon and during VBS. What a blessing that was for the younger children. Thank you, Julie! You will be missed!

Julie was my first cousin, she treated me like a sister . Joni and I (June’s’ daughter, Connie) went to Hay Center almost every summer during harvest when we were young. We were probably not much help but the family always welcomed us with love …and taught us a lot of card games when we weren’t packing up food to go to the field. Julie would talk her dad Into saddling up “old Socks” for us so we could have a ride .. they were so busy but always made time for any family or friend who came their way! This family loved Jesus and loved all of us so well .. We will see you again on the other side dear one .. I am truly blessed you were a part of my life!

Juli‘s mom, Alice, was the youngest Curtis child of seven, my mom, June, was the oldest. And,I was the oldest Curtis grandchild and Juli was the youngest. My sweet cousin was a flower girl in my wedding. She always loved family and we shared an interest in ancestors. She once sent me the entire Curtis family history… back to the 1500s. I cherish it and I will always cherish my sweet cousin’s memory!💕 Until we meet again in Heaven!

We all were very sorry to hear about Julie’s passing. I played volleyball and basketball with her back in the day and had so much fun. She was a great neighbor and friend. We want to let her family know how sorry we are for their lose. Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone.

I lived with Julie in Lincoln when we started working at State Farm. I remember how much she enjoyed making gingerbread houses! I am so sorry for your loss. Sending prayers and hugs to all of you!
