Jon Lauren Anderson
January 9, 1955 – October 11, 2022
Jon was born in Wahoo, NE to Ben L. and Beverly A. (Schulte) Anderson. From age two he lived in Lincoln. He and his older sister, Becky, had running battles until they declared a truce during high school. From an early age Jon was fascinated with cars and model trains, and grew up to become an exacting painter of vehicles and restorer of collectible cars.

He developed a lifelong love of camping through Scouts, and a lifelong love of boating while living on Wedgwood Lake. On one of his many road trips, Jon once pulled into a long line of cars at Red Rocks, Colorado without knowing who was playing, and ended up seeing Bob Dylan. Many of his leisure activities were in the company of Scot Peterson, Mike Miller, Russ McRoberts, and John Bakula. With his father Ben, Bill Evans, and Bob Shaw, Jon often attended car rallies with members of Her Majesty’s Royal Nebraska Patrol (MGs) and the Flatwater Car Club.

Jon would do just about anything for anyone if he was able. He was self-effacing with a quiet sense of humor. When his daughter Lyssa was a bit too celebratory on her seventeenth birthday, Jon persuaded the officer in question to let her stay home rather than being taken to the station, and later inquired, Did you have fun? For Lyssa’s graduation from high school Jon found a wrecked 2000 Saturn SC2, rounded up all the parts to fix it, and walked her through the process of restoring the car.

Jon attended Holmes School, Ruth Pyrtle, and Lincoln East. After graduating he worked in the paint shop of National Crane in Waverly. When the plant closed he painted RVs and autos at Stephenson’s Truck Repair, and managed the family’s handful of apartments.

For a time Jon was married to Sheri Wunderlich Wright. He is survived by daughter Alyssa (Wunderlich) Blakley, her husband Jim Blakley, and their children Zayla and Zayne; daughter Amber Wunderlich and her son Jeremyah; sister Rebecca Anderson, her husband William Minier, and their children Brian, Alex, and Rachel; many cousins and many friends with whom he enjoyed football parties and just about any other excuse to gather together.

In that fine tradition, Jon’s family and friends will gather at a later date to celebrate his life.

In the meantime, please share a story about Jon in the comments.

I learned, today, that Jon passed on in 2022. I’m hoping he was comfortable at the time, and that he felt how deeply his daughters and grandkids loved him; he was so proud of them! -and Jon loved Nebraska football and cars! He had a group of very devoted friends who truly watched over him; he knew he was lucky to have them, and loved them back. Farewell, Jon. Thank you for letting me be there, at times. I hope you’re at peace.

Met Jon at East High in 71. That Wedgewood crew had a lot of kids and friends. They all seemed to know each other, one way or other. Nice kid when I knew him. Quiet, to himself, seemed to be always pondering something. Liked by all… Glad to have as a friend KeenanCain-73

Jon was like an uncle to me. He was one of my father’s best friends throughout their whole life and his appreciation for Wedgewood lake and all of the glorious memories we all shared together as a group will forever be in my heart. From jet skiing. To pulling jet skis out of the lake swimming in the mouth. To camping. Even babysitting Alyssa and Amber as little babes. He will forever have a special place in my heart. Rest in power my sweet friend.

I grew up with Lyssa, she was my best friend in highschool. Their home was my second home. From sneaking out to concerts & cruises, to all of the Husker Games we watched at their home, Jon was always so welcoming and I loved him dearly. Such an amazing man gone too soon, Heaven is lucky to have you.
