He developed a lifelong love of camping through Scouts, and a lifelong love of boating while living on Wedgwood Lake. On one of his many road trips, Jon once pulled into a long line of cars at Red Rocks, Colorado without knowing who was playing, and ended up seeing Bob Dylan. Many of his leisure activities were in the company of Scot Peterson, Mike Miller, Russ McRoberts, and John Bakula. With his father Ben, Bill Evans, and Bob Shaw, Jon often attended car rallies with members of Her Majesty’s Royal Nebraska Patrol (MGs) and the Flatwater Car Club.
Jon would do just about anything for anyone if he was able. He was self-effacing with a quiet sense of humor. When his daughter Lyssa was a bit too celebratory on her seventeenth birthday, Jon persuaded the officer in question to let her stay home rather than being taken to the station, and later inquired, Did you have fun? For Lyssa’s graduation from high school Jon found a wrecked 2000 Saturn SC2, rounded up all the parts to fix it, and walked her through the process of restoring the car.
Jon attended Holmes School, Ruth Pyrtle, and Lincoln East. After graduating he worked in the paint shop of National Crane in Waverly. When the plant closed he painted RVs and autos at Stephenson’s Truck Repair, and managed the family’s handful of apartments.
For a time Jon was married to Sheri Wunderlich Wright. He is survived by daughter Alyssa (Wunderlich) Blakley, her husband Jim Blakley, and their children Zayla and Zayne; daughter Amber Wunderlich and her son Jeremyah; sister Rebecca Anderson, her husband William Minier, and their children Brian, Alex, and Rachel; many cousins and many friends with whom he enjoyed football parties and just about any other excuse to gather together.
In that fine tradition, Jon’s family and friends will gather at a later date to celebrate his life.
In the meantime, please share a story about Jon in the comments.
