John Wayne Brooks, 62, departed from this earth at home in Lincoln, Nebraska on Wednesday, April 18, 2012. He was born on January 6, 1950 in the Air Force Hospital on Offutt Air Force Base, Omaha, Nebraska to Glenn Arthur and Norma Jean (Shaw) Brooks.
John was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 1968 graduate of Plattview High School, BA of Music Education , Peru State College, 1972, Masters degree in Music Education at UNL, Lincoln Elks Lodge #80 BPOE, Business Boosters Chapter of BNI Group, former member of Lincoln Civic Orchestra and Omaha Orchestra, band instructor at Plattsmouth School for 20 years, owner/operator of Sign Solutions for 22 years, District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler for Eastern Nebraska for Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Heart of Elkdom award recipient (2012), extremely instrumental in the success of the Lincoln Elks Lodge Ritual Championship Teams over the past few years, amateur chef, loved to ski, accomplished player of woodwinds, brass and strings.
Family members include his wife Mary; son, daughter-in-law: Jason and Raejean Brooks, Lincoln and their children Ella, Amelia and Lucas John Brooks; daughter, son-in-law: Carrie and Ryan Fiedler, Lincoln and their children Jack Wayne, Lillian, Eli and Andrew Fiedler; brothers, sisters-in-law: Glenn and Nancy Brooks, Tempe, AZ, William and Debbie Brooks, Burlington, CT, Robert Brooks, Tempe, AZ; sisters, brothers-in-law: Shirley and Jeff Juhl, Council Bluffs, IA, Karen Walker and Kenny Dredge, Lincoln; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Preceded in death by parents.
Funeral Mass: 3:00 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 7900 Trendwood Drive followed by a 4:30 p.m. Celebration of Life Service at Roper and Sons Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ Street. A reception will be held immediately following the services at the Lincoln Elks Lodge.
