John W. Wurm, 88, formerly of Lincoln, died peacefully March 1, 2012, in Tucson, Ariz., with his children at his side. Born April 10, 1923, in Lincoln, Neb., to William and Elisabeth (Goeschel) Wurm. Retired Construction Engineer, Northern Natural Gas Company, 35 years. Past In-Service Chairman Transportation, past Board of Directors, Bryan West Auxiliary and past treasurer of Bryan West Auxiliary Memorial Fund. He was a devout Missouri Synod Lutheran his entire life.
Dad was beloved by many family, friends and co-workers. He was always present for his children and grandchildren and loved being with his family when they gathered together. For over 25 years he seldom missed his daily 3-5 mile walks. In fact, he was just finishing his walk the day he fell ill.
Surviving family members include son, daughter-in-law, David and Cathy Wurm, San Antonio, Texas; daughters, sons-in-law, Nancy and Ray Nagle, Tucson, Ariz., Sharon and Steve Stenholm, Wichita, Kan.; grandchildren, William and Suzanne Hye, Brett (Aida) and Adrienne Stenholm; sister, Dorothy White; sisters-in-law, Frances Wurm and Violet Wurm, Lincoln, Betty Kenney, Omaha; brother-in-law, Roy Schwarzkopf of Minneapolis, Minn. Preceded in death by wife, Shirley R. Ziettlow Wurm; parents; infant son Steven John; brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law, Karl Wurm, Margaret Wurm, Arthur Wurm, Willard Wurm, Mildred Johnson, Irwin and Marie Schwarzkopf, Robert White, Dean K. Ziettlow, all of Lincoln, George Kenney, Omaha and Betty Schwarzkopf, Minneapolis.
The family wishes to thank Dixie Moss of Guardian Angels for her compassionate and dedicated assistance to dad, allowing him to continue to live independently in his home these past few years.
