Obituary

John Douglas Krick

June 17, 1949 - December 31, 2017

John Douglas Krick

John Douglas Krick, after embracing and fully using each of the 693 days since his diagnosis of Stage IV Cancer in Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away on December 31, 2016. The cancer, that was expected to afford him a small fraction of those days and possibly prevent him from returning home entirely, did not keep John from celebrating each day. He traveled with family, enjoyed cooking elaborate meals for his wife, planted tulip & iris bulbs, and cheered for his much loved Huskers!

John was born June 17, 1949 in Ord, NE; the sole surviving son of Donald and Clara LaVonne Krick. The Krick family moved to Kearney, NE in 1966, where John completed his final year of High School in 1967.

In 1969 John married Kellee (Burchell) of Minden, NE. Over the years John and Kellee lived in the Lincoln area where John attended the University of Nebraska College of Pharmacy.

John devoted his professional passion to studying Pharmacy. He completed his pre- Pharmacy courses at Kearney State College and graduated from the Nebraska College of Pharmacy on the University of Nebraska Med Campus in 1973. Following graduation John worked at Family Drug , as well as St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, prior to owning and operating Meadow Lane Pharmacy from 1978-2006, and worked for Walgreens the last 9 years of his career.

The balance of John’s life, outside of Pharmacy management, John was devoted to his family, and to activities through which he challenged himself. These activities included an unusual mix — marathon-running, learning foreign languages, and studying history. In addition, John enjoyed fishing, reading, and truly loved his dogs, Rosie and Riley.

John was a member of St. Mark’s Methodist Church, Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, and the Nebraska Pharmacist’s Association.

John is survived by Kellee, his wife of 47 years; 3 children – Kasey George (Sam), Brendon Krick (Christin), and Corby Krick; 7 grandchildren- Cami, Cale, and Emma Cortney; Mikayla, Briar, Coleman, and Tristan Krick. John has been a remarkable husband, father, and grandfather to the whole Krick Clan. He was much loved, will be missed by all, and will continue to be a role model for those left behind.

He was proceeded in death by numerous aunts and uncles, his parents, and 2 brothers.

The Family will welcome friends and family from 6:00-7:30pm at Roper & Sons Mortuary (address)on Wednesday January 4th. The Memorial Service will be on Thursday January 5th at St. Mark’s Methodist Church Chapel (address) in Lincoln, NE at 11:00am. A light lunch will be provided immediately following the service in the Church. John’s ashes will be interred at Liberty Cemetery north of Minden, NE and conducted at a later date.

As per John’s request…memorials can be made to Nebraska No Kill Canine Rescue (info@NebraskaNoKill.org), Rescue Road Trips (www.rescueroadtrips.com ), St. Marks Methodist Church or any charity of choice.
