Obituary

John D. Walker

September 1, 1946 - April 16, 2025

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of John Dean Walker, age 78. He was born into this world on September 1, 1946, with a saltshaker in his pocket and courage in his heart. John passed peacefully at home on April 16, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. John valued family more than anything. He was a thoughtful man of loyalty, humor, and wisdom. He spent his life as a coach, mentor and teacher with the knowledge of a “Lincoln High dad.” John was a lifelong employee of Lincoln Manufacturing and finished his career at J&J Diesel after receiving his degree from Southeast Community College in Business Administration at the age of 60.

John will be forever loved by his wife Jolene, daughters Holly Terrell (Steve) and Stephanie Walker (Scott Lee), granddaughters Maddie Ring and Logan Ring, sister Nancy, brother Larry, many nieces and nephews, and a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his sister Pam, and parents Delbert and Wauneta.

A ceremony of love and remembrance will be held at 2pm, Tuesday, April 22, at Roper and Sons South Chapel, 3950 Hohensee Drive with a reception following. Please direct memorials to the Nebraska Commission for the Blind.

I am saddened to learn that John has passed away and wish to extend my sympathy to the Walker family. My memories of John from our days as Lincoln High School students are happy ones. But I also have a special memory of kindness he extended to me later in my life: when my mother passed away a decade ago, John sent an inspiring email message to me, totally unexpected, about memory of a mother’s love. It was truly the nicest thing anyone did for me at that time and helped me work through my grief. I was grateful for and will remember always his thoughtfulness.

Many wonderful memories of cousin John from childhood to adulthood, all in the confines of a large and loving extended family. Time passed and we grew older but when the opportunity to get together came it was as if time stood still. We were nurtured in the embrace of a loving family and it never failed to bring us together. Rest in peace, Cousin, you were loved.
