JoDon ‘Dondi’ Kilgore (Morrison)

August 25, 1961 - June 11, 2024

JoDon Kilgore (Morrison), affectionately known as Dondi, entered eternal rest on June 11, 2024 in her hometown of Lincoln, Nebraska. Born to Karen Carr and John Morrison on August 25, 1961, Dondi’s life was filled with light and love.

Dondi’s story began in Lincoln, Nebraska with her siblings, Cindy, John, Tim, and Kristi. Her childhood was filled with countless adventures, and her memories of those were some of her greatest treasures.

Dondi’s love for her family was unshakeable. She was a remarkable mother who dedicated her life to her three children Matthew, Melissa, and Mitchell. Also in her circle of love was her dear friend Tris, and her children Austin, Riley, and Cole who Dondi loved like her own. The greatest love of all was reserved for her grandchildren, Beau, Sawyer, William, and Daniella. They were the light of her life, and she loved them fiercely.

For Nearly 30 years, Dondi dedicated her life to Lincoln Public Schools. She was an unstoppable force as Supervisor of Nutrition services where she made lasting impressions and left a legacy of kindness, determination, and trust.

Services to celebrate the incredible life of Dondi will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, June 21, 2024 at Roper and Sons South Lincoln Chapel, 3950 Hohensee Drive. Visitation with family present from 5-7 pm Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Roper and Sons South Lincoln Chapel also.

Dondi’s life was built upon a foundation of family, love, and meaningful memories. Everyone who was blessed to know her will feel the loss of her here on this earth, but we will take comfort in knowing that she has reunited with her beloved mother, and that she will walk beside us always.

My family lived next door to Dondi’s mother in Pleasant Dale. Karen was my children’s babysitter for many years. Dondi was always a caring and loving friend. I can hear the sweetness in her voice yet today. She loved her mother and step-father so much and was special to them. It does make me feel blessed that she was in our lives and that she is with Karen again.

I knew Dondi for many years and along with so many others who loved her will feel the loss from her passing. Our children went through their teen years together, so Dondi and I got to share with one another through them. Her daughter and my son eventually found love with one another and married. Our shared grandchildren, Beau and Sawyer are both loving and giving children, thanks in large part to the lessons Dondi taught her children and the love of Cody and Mel. Dondi never seemed to judge others and was always there with a smile, kind word or open arms. Sitting beside her at any event made you feel noticed, cared for and important because her attention was laser focused on you. She was an ‘Old and gentle soul’. So sad she is gone but glad she is free.

I had the privilege of knowing Dondi for many years and being her friend. She was always loving and kind to everyone and made you feel very special. I had the special privilege of having Matt, Michelle and Mitchel go though my lunch line at Calvert where I was the kitchen manager. They honored their mother, as they were great kids. We were working friends and life friends. My heart hurts to know have her here with us now, but knowing she is at peace now and watching over us gives me peace and I hope her family, extended family and friends have comfort in that as well. Love you, my friend. Here’s another hug for you from me.💞

Dondi was more than just a lunch lady! To some of us kids she was the only piece of kindness we got during the school day. I remember her being there for me from middle all the way through high school. She went above and beyond. I have many a memories with her if it was a quick chat in the hallway before lunch. Or the extra things she would let me get in the cafeteria (anything not on the normal plan for kids with free or reduced lunch) she would just give me a wink and let me go. She gave the best hugs! And always had words of encouragement when I needed them the most during the school day! I never rushed to school because I liked school. I rushed to school because I knew no matter how bad of a day I would have she would always be there with a smile and hug if needed. She was a light in my darkest school days. Even as I sit here in my 30s I am so beyond thankful for her and the person she was and the kindness and encouragement she always showed. She will forever be my unsung hero! Give Erin a squeeze, Dondi you were loved and will forever be missed ❤️

This makes my heart so sad. Dondi was a force at LPS. I had the honor of working with her during my kitchen days. She was always so diplomatic when giving advice. “The soup tastes delicious! It seems a little hot though, let’s cook it down a little.” My condolences to her family and friends.

Dondi was a very kind, loving and hard working. Dondi was the one who told me about working for LPS in the cafeteria? After my retirement, I decided to go work for LPS still working for them as a lunch lady I will be in my ninth year next school year. Forever grateful for Dondi. I went to school with her sister Cindy, who ended up cheerleading with me and became very good friends. My sympathies to the family. My heart is broken 💔 for all of you. I wish you peace and comfort and the following days ahead. 🙏😇💕
